I agree on the early E46 CSL test cars they mimicked the aerodynamics of the spoiler. I saw a photo of it in its early stages and its "csl" lip on the trunk was an add on spoiler and later on they integrated into the now infamous CSL trunk. I have to see if I can find that photo.

He probably will be, but it's not an absurd dream. $10k should buy quite a few enhancements in the real world, not the market-driven exclusive world.

The previous CSL held a 50% price premium over the standard M. If this car came to the states this thing could cost 80K at best. Which would actually pretty good if the CSL was a real performer and gave cars like the GT3 and new GTR a run for its money.
But I dont expect to the see the CSL in the states... Jason

A few weeks ago, Scott26 wrote that the decision has been made not to ship the CSL to the US, some people here seem to think he has been wrong before. Even if it makes it here, the premium will most likely be more like $20k-$25k.

Furthermore, if you know anything about the last gen. CSL, you would know you are not going to get much of anything you want and list above, i.e. not coming to the US, wouldn't be $70k if it did, may weigh 200 lb less and will not get better mileage and not likely to have significantly more low end torque. Just like the base model (which is clearly looking like a performance "monster" from the test data we have already) take it or leave it. I suppose I need to say I think this board is open to all thoughts, negative and positive so don't start whining that I or we don't like your opinion. It is simply that your posts are always negative and many like the one quoted are quite naive. |

Negativity
Well, "all" may be a bit much. I don't think I have been negative, except for wishing for a little better interior and exterior design. You're right that the overall tone is negative. This will disappear in about 7 or 8 months, I think, when we actually get to drive the damn thing.

Looks like the Technik Spoiler, yet not molded. Looks good so far.

It looks like they are testing some aero apendages to me, none of which are in production format, so there's no need to draw any conclusions on the finished product.
What it does tell us though is that to be testing in such an open manner, that the production version is likely to appear within a year from now. p.s. just to reinforce Brian's point, when the E46 CSL was testing, all the aero changes looked similarly stuck on, so expect to see these more integrated and probably very different in the production version. |

For the love of ///M3

BMW wouldn't (as would no other company) release mules with the finished bodywork this early. The M3 was still wearing bumper camo throughout the early summer and we already knew what that looked like.
It is almost certainly the first CSL test mule.
