Damn, great build. I love track built cars.

I'm hoping to make my e90 into a track car someday. But I need way more track experience. A stock m3 is way more capable than I am still.

I've seen an E90 race car build:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=638354

I haven't seen a dedicated track build e90 yet.

sold all my interior for the e46 as well as the csl-zcp bbs wheels that came with it. also picked up a spare set of ec-7s with nt01s from wootwoot last week. working on a few things this offseason. traded my x5 3.0 for a 2011 x5d and also bought a trailer so will start towing car to the track. may not be all the time until my car isnt driveable on the street anymore. got it mostly for longer hauls to farther away tracks.

1. rod bearings
2. BW race exhaust if my eisenmann sells
3. BW cf diffuser
4. possible switch to r1 depending on fit have 2 285-30 and trying to run those square
5. pull fenders more
6. more aggressive brake pads, cobalt xr2s
7. more aggressive alignment, -4.25 front, -3 rear
8. replace studs, had one break already in half season.
9. vanos evaluation
10. more aggressive gearing, 3.91 or 4.10

Doubt all this will be done this off season, kind of a process and i still plan to drive over the winter as well.

-4.25 and -3.0? That's a TON of camber. Might want bigger sways or stiffer springs instead. You should be able to fit 285s square no problem. Depends on how pretty you want your little fenders to look. Remember...RACECAR!

Screw the diffuser. I'd do the gears first.

I just scored a used BW race exhaust for less than half price! Pretty excited about it!

yeah it is a ton but my set up now is a compromise since dual purpose still. already have GC adjustable bars and 700-800 springs. Yeah im stoked about fitting the 285 square if it will work. fenders just need more massaging.

diffuser is just to go along with the exit of the bw race as you know. you will have to report back to me about that thing, my concern is it will be way too loud for me.

overall goal is to remove some of the initial compromises that were made with my setup so more aggressive pads, tires, alignment, gearing, weight loss, and as a last resort power and aero.

I think you'll just rip up your tires with that much camber. What's the issue?

You know you can get the BW exhaust that exits out of the OEM diffuser. It is pretty f'ing loud but I've been told the worst part is the drone.

Agree if you are running R1 that is way too much camber. I would stick around max -3.5 front -2.2 rear.

Have -3.5 and -2.75 right now. I trust the builder as he drives the primebmw car with -4.4 front I believe. Also pro driver. Still wearing outer edge more than would like at this pt on nt01s.

I don't know...that seems a bit extreme. Does he pay for his own tires? I've never seen fast E46M3s run that much camber.

Its normal to roll on the outer edges. Its one of the short comings of a macpherson strut and wishbone front suspension. I do wear the outer edges of my tires but it doesn't result in the outer edge cording.

He wasn't paying for tires for a while as had a truck full of scrubs from stammer car. Yoko slicks some super softs. Extremely fast car. With a flip I am cording outer edge at some pt. How else do your nt01s wear out?

camber

I run either -4.4 or -4.6 front.....can't remember. 1000# front springs. We have never corded a front tire.....always a rear without much switching around.
We may soften up the rear springs a bit the next time out. Then soften up the front springs. Changes....always changes to the set up.
Speed: Well I put down a 1:22 dead at PIR last time out with heat cycled out tires (307 rwhp and 3175lb.). The GTS4 national champ runs high 1:19 with more power, less weight and 320 wide slicks. The car is in the ball park if we all loose some weight .......now where are my cf/fiberglass doors?

The set up is completely dependant on the tire you run. For example I had been running the yoko slicks. But I got a great deal on a set of BFG R1. The spring rate + compression dampening made the car extremely difficult to drive with R1s. You would load up the suspension and it would spit out the tire sideways! The tire just didn't have enough grip to hold. With some minor tweaks I dropped 4 sec at ORP. Bottom line the current setup is at the outer edges for BFG R1. BTW the BFG R1 is very easy to drive compared to the yokos.

I guess I'm more surprised at the rear camber numbers above -3.0. I can see where more front camber is beneficial because the car is nose heavy with the iron block engine sitting over the front axle. The car is definitely more responsive with a lot of front camber, I did drive a weekend at -4.4 degrees of camber in the front. I think I can get -5.0 since I'm using non-M Vorshlag camber plates on an M (I took them off my E46 330). I'm at the minimum setting which is at -3.4.

I would think that rear suspension travel is really limited by the spring travel. In the OE design there's not a lot of travel to gain unless you go to a true rear coil over design. Then you get more travel and more dynamic camber change. So more negative camber will increase your contact patch in the corners. Am I incorrect in my thinking on this?

I know multiple people running about the same camber settings I mentioned on R1's. Both great drivers. One car GTS4 and former national champion and other GTS3 (Zima Motorsports car 2nd place this year). The GTS4 car was able to do 2:23 at Road America and 1:29 on autobahn south which is very fast times. The zima car was able to do 1:31's at autobahn on R6's though, his BFG time was slightly slower.

I have seen a few people with more camber but that is with true slicks non dot approved.

Everyone sets up the cars differently just feel like maybe there is something else you might want to take a look at before setting up with that much camber

i will leave as is and do some hot pit probe temps to determine where to go with the r1s before i make a change.

Thats a good idea. What settings are you using for toe? Are most of the tracks tighter/technical or longer straights? Sometimes on the more technical tracks you can run a more aggressive toe set up.

i have neutral front toe and slight in rear i believe. 2 tracks i run usually arent that tight and have lot of speed.
