Another one bites the dust...

Posted this over in the Canada forum but put up some pics so wanted to share. Had the great misfortune of getting into an accident last week Wednesday on the way into work. Long story short a minivan made an illegal left turn in front of me, I braked hard but there was no chance of stopping in time. I hit her dead on in the side and my airbags went off. Other driver was charged/at fault (of course) and I just got word back late yesterday from the appraiser that they are writing off my 2011 E90 M3 due to frame damage. Went by the auto body place this morning to pickup my plates and personal belongings out of the car... it is a sad day my friends.

Upside is that my insurance company is paying the full/new value of the car as its within 2 years of new... plus better to get a new car then deal with the hassles of reduced value on trade in etc.

Let the new car shopping commence... I've had two E90 M3s (2008 and 2011) so I'm most likely looking elsewhere for now until the F80 M3 comes out later next year. Driving a C63 AMG tonight and making plans to test out some other rides... we'll see where I end up for now.

Fixed the links, should work now... really doesn't look too bad from the pics but apparently when they managed to get the hood open the discovered some serious damage underneath.

Glad you made it out safe!

Keep us updated on what other cars you test drive and what you think of them in comparison to the E90 M3's.

Fixable sure but dealing with frame damage is never a sure thing. The appraiser said they would need to pull the engine to fix the frame damage on top of the new hood, fenders, bumper, lights, airbags, etc. Figure the amount they are getting by selling it salvage outweighs the repair costs not to mention potential problems down the road.

Ouch, poor M3, glad you are ok. Good that you got full value of the car, but man there's not much out there until the next M3/4 comes out, especially if you are looking for a 4 door that's of similar value.

Yeah, been thinking the same... I can get a C63 AMG at a great price so that might be a nice change (481hp) for a couple years. The interior is really nice on the new model but not entirely sure about the 7 speed slushbox given I'm a manual guy. Arrgh.

Engine in the C63 AMG is great and exhaust note is like music but they do tend to depreciate rather quickly, just be prepared for that.

I never like to see posts like this I'm glad to hear you are ok.

I'd go for a Porsche however seeing that you were in an E90 and using it year round I'm guessing you have a family in tow most of the time. The Porsche just would be practical

MB might be a good second choice until the next gen M3 comes out.

If you want to stay in the BMW family you may want to check out a 2013 335i. The new F30 has a larger feel then the old E90 and after 2 or 3 years you could upgrade to another M

same thing happened to me end of 2011. Glad you're fine man.

Had it happened to me end of 2012 I wouldn't have gotten another M3 and, like you, waited for the new F30 M3.

C63?.....hmmmm, I find the body of that car too plain jane and weak. Now if you get the Black Series........hmmmmmm

Sorry about this! It's amazing that is "all" that it takes to total it. It doesn't look that bad (but I know it is).

IMO, don't get a C63. The trans sucks and the interior is not as nice as it looks. Kia has nicer buttons in their cars. It feels like the buttons are going to break off.

Your pictures make me feel nauseous. Iím sorry. As far as I am concerned the E90 M3 is not replaceable. Iím glad youíre ok and that youíre not taking a hit financially.

Don't get the benzo! Get another e9x....and if you hate it, you can sell it and get the new M4 when they come out. Me, I'd get another V8...brand new if possible!

Had a similar accident in my 335i a couple of years ago. luckily for me there were cops to my left waiting at the intersection who witnessed it happen.

was all for getting the car repaired no matter the frame damage but the repair cost exceeded 75% of the car's estimated value and it was written off.

Enjoy your new car.
