Megan Exhaust + Test pipes = symphony

I've had my Megan cat back for around 5 months now, and have loved it so far.

I've been craving more power, so just purchased ACM Test Pipes and installed them today.

I was worried about noise and rasp, but it's better than I imagined!

1) The Test pipes COMPLETELY eliminated the low 2K rpm drone the megan had
2) There is barely any noise at a cruise
3) Idle is slightly louder
4) Screams like a banshee at WOT, with barely any audible rasp at all inside the cockpit
5) VERY slight rasp from outside when I had my friend drive by in the car at high RPMs. I hate rasp, and I'm completely happy with how it sounds now.

I can't believe how good it sounds for a $900 exhaust combo, I highly recommend this setup to anyone looking for more power, but worried about too much noise or nasty rasp sound.

I installed the test pipes with a friend to help hold the X-pipe and pass around tools, a couple of tall jack stands, and a low profile jack that jacks pretty high - all purchased from harbor freight. I also got a Ryobi Reciprocating Saw for $60 from Home Depot with a $4 better blade that cut through the pipes in under 20 seconds. Don't get battery operated ones, they don't cut that well.

Pretty easy for an afternoons work!

I'm about 1 or 2 weeks away from getting a set of ACM TP's, I've already got the OEM exhaust mod and thought about just trying that combo for a while. I'm just going to skip and go ahead and get the Megan exhaust. Seriously a great sounding combo, and the price is pretty much unbeatable.

Here's someone that finally did a good video clip:

Thanks for linking that VID! It sounds even better in person, and also inside the car.

I'm pretty much sold on it. Have you had a chance to hear an M3 with the bypass OEM exhaust mod? Can you comment how loud it is vs your setup? I love the volume of my exhaust right now, but can't say no to a TP and Megan combo.

OEM exhaust mod sounds good by itself, it's a pretty deep rumbly sound compared to the megan.

I think there is more rasp when doing TP + OEM exhaust mod from threads I've seen, but would have to search for them.

It's VERY raspy, especially since I have the more aggressive of the 2 versions of the OEM exhaust mod. I just hope TP + Megan isn't quieter than what I currently have. Can't wait for the power gain though!

Make sure you get a tune as well! I've had the BPMSport for a few months, and adding the TP was another large bump in power.

I certainly plan to. It's between BPM and ESS for me right now. Just glad to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Don't plan on doing much to my car after these mods.

Hahaha. I know you don't believe that.
