the guy sending those cars out should NEVER let those cars sit that close to the racing surface and NEVER turn his back to oncoming traffic that close to the track. neither should the drivers, and they should NOT be out of their cars. that was one of the first rules i learned as an SCCA corner worker. both of them should also put themselves on the passenger side of those cars staging. always place a car between you and oncoming traffic if you need to check on a car that left the road surface. again, these are the most basic corner worker guidelines. all those guys that then ran to the car even after the driver was out are also putting themselve at risk. to let all this occur shows how poorly the event was run. that wrx should have been able to slide through the grass and hit absolutely nothing. what a shame he had to wipe out his car.

I've never even attended an event and i was just thinking all of the above. Why were they stopped there and Why would you EVER turn your back to oncoming traffic like that. Seems pretty logical to me!

My exact thoughts. Very badly run event. The video is full of red flags (no pun intended)

EVO driver should have also stayed in car unless it was on fire. Safest place for him until full course yellow and rescue truck arrives. You don't get out and look at your wrecked car.

You guys do realize that happened over 7 years ago and I would sure hope that things have changed since then. Some pretty poor decisions were made that day for sure.

I'm sure they do not allow for this type lining up any longer, they are probably way back now.

Really old video that went viral back in the day. I'm glad it didn't scare me from getting involved with HPDEs!

Yes, there can be a massive difference between DE orgs even when running at the same track. I've seen some crazy stuff.

BMWCCA and PCA are national orgs that are probably the best run events. Some don't like them because they are SUPER conservative but they don't mess around. I believe PCA puts you in the beginner group no matter what which rubs some people the wrong way.

Then local or state DE Orgs are hit an miss. Here in TX the Driver's Edge and TWS PDS are well ran. Haven't tried Apex or the Harris Hill Road school yet.

That's why you don't just hang out next to the race track or hot pit!

Pit and track are not separated by a wall? There are some real sketchy organizers out there.

wow like everyone else said no one should be out of their cars unless it is on fire and they really should not be lining up outside the pit area.. the G could have been saved and the life could have ENDED!
