Very true, although, a 400 hp car that runs with most 500-600 hp cars on the street and more so on the track and puts down supercar numbers with far from supercar power is flat out amazing. Car is remarkable in everyway.

Anyone cross shop a 991 to a 997 gt3? Is it too much of a one trick pony? It's the m4, gt3 or 991 next for me

^If it's not a daily, I'd do the 997.2 gt3. Some good deals out there and if you change cars a lot, you shouldn't lose that much money when you sell.

There are a handful of colors that a proper 911 should be. A small handful. That's at the top.

Very well done sir!

The reality is that Porsche automobiles are simply in a league above BMW, Audi and Mercedes. The engineering, supremely balanced capabilities, and phenomenal build quality are second to none. Yes, they are pricey, but once you have driven one, you will be sold. That said, for the enthusiast driver, from a value standpoint, very little can touch an M3.

991c4s is a great car - but it's definitely a big car, which is a shame. Looks like a GT 2+2, as opposed to a classic sports car and looks flabbier than the 997. Visually I prefer the 997, though I understand that the 991 is, objectively, a superior car and lighter to boot.

Not sure why the comparisons to the m3 are being made. You can double the price of an m3 building one out. These cars are not comparable and not meant to be. Both are top tier in their respective class.

I'm in savings mode at this stage in my career, but a 911 c4s or gt3 is in my future. Maybe 10-15 years from now.

I like the 911, but don't like the look of it stock. I prefer the looks of the GT3 or turbo variant. A little more aggressive, and I think the back needs a wing to make the butt less round.:-)

Compared to the E90 M3 the 991 is tiny.

Funny I see this statement made all the time when comparing various cars that have different MSRPs. Does everyone just buy the most expensive car they can afford? There are a lot of other factors that come into play other than just the cost of the car.

Compared to a 964, the 991 is a whale

Don't get me wrong - I like the 991. I don't like the bubbly looking headlights in profile or the extended wheelbase. The C4s is much better and the gt3 looks amazing.

My point about the comparison is that the m3 is not a pure sports car - it's not meant to compete with cars like the 911, z06, GTR. The technology of the engine and the chassis are a relatively good value for the money, but it is built to a price point. Seems a little silly to compare the performance of a great sports sedan to a great sports car that doesn't have to make the same compromises for room, noise, comfort or price.

Can someone tell me how it is that out of a 3.8 flat 6 NA engine they can get 400 plus horsepower? What is it they actually do? The CR is lower than the m3's s65, so where the heck does that leave more power to be made out of 3.8 litres??

I would attribute most of it to the direct injection. 6 year newer technology will do that to an engine...

Don't get too hung up about peak numbers either. It's important to know the shape of the curves, etc. and in the end the differences in both displacement and power are small between the two.

Another point made here is the price point. The M3 is built to a significantly lower cost and sell price, so I'm pretty sure that in the interest of longevity, reduced maintenance and warranty considerations, BMW may have left a few ponies on the table.

No big deal, these are both exceptional engines. I don't think that Posche would be embarrassed to install the S65 engine in one of their cars and vice-versa.

Not all of them.

I'm shopping for a used Boxster or Cayman and they've had significant engine problems over the years. Same with the 996 cars. BMWs from that era were better built in many respects IMO.

So, no unqualified statements please.

Well I finally have mine broken in and this car feels faster than I anticipated. If the weather is decent on Fri. I might take it to the track to see what it runs compared to my M3. Fastest trap speed in my M3 was 116.9mph.

You are right, but I was never very interested in a car that small and impracticle as my daily driver. What I loved was my original E30 and with each generation the M3 has gotten bigger and bigger and further from what it once was. Now the 911 has done exactly the same thing, but it just happens that to me the current 911 is closer in weight/size/performance/practicality to what i want in a daily driver than the current or upcoming M3.

Very good point. I wish they were just a tad more affordable though...
