m3 vs 335i, who wins?

so i have a stock 08 e92 6speed and a guy i know wants to run me in his 335i(dct) and he says he has a tune and an intake, but a while back he mentioned getting a mid pipe. will probably end up running him after i do exhaust atleast, but what would the outcome most likely be?

I wont be going from a dig probably like a 45 roll...

I see it's an 08 335i so has n54 engine with just tune and intake he can probably take you, or you will be head to head with him. I drive fbo 335i + e85 and i take m3s like nothing but at the end of the day m3 is m3..

If he actually has a DCT, he has a 335is. The 335i was never offered with a DCT.

If he has a tune, an intake and midpipes, he will be first to reach well into the triple digits. He'll still be well ahead of you, if you just do an exhaust. You'd need a tune, full exhaust (perhaps catless), and maybe underdrive pulleys to hang with him.

Remember that the DCT will be able to shift much faster than you will. It's going to make this race much more difficult for you.

Also, please don't do this on public roads. It's illegal and very dangerous.
You should take your cars to an HDPE or an autocross. It will be safer, more fun, it will last longer and, the odds will be more in your favor.

335 definitely wins up to 100 or so.

ooo well its the auto, his is an 08 with a lemon title, im debating on doing catless xpipe or just mufflers first, might just do catless and then a tune, just so i can beat him and be done with it

Okay. The auto doesn't shift as fast and, the ratios are not as aggressive. It will still shift faster than you.

If you are going to modify the car, I'd go for a tune and a full exhaust.

Also, please take it to the track.

Modifying an M3 to beat 335s in a drag race on the street seems to *really* be missing multiple points, but that's just me (and I came to a stock E92M from a Dinan stage 2 335xi). Of course to each his own.

Tune, catless dp, full exhaust , meth ,DCI,IC, and some goodies can smoke m3 all day long but so what? I enjoy the v8 roar and handling of the m3.

tune only probably wont be enough to win. he may take you early, but then you will pull on him

and why does everyone in this thread have to defend the m3 vs the 335 and start talking about how the 335 isn't an m and doesn't handle as well. that has nothing to do with his question.

he asked can his car beat this 335 in a straight line, that's it. stop being so defensive, its exhausting.

Kinda makes me feel bad for the M3 drivers.

Oh, no need to feel bad

The N54 tracking crowd has come a long way and with proper cooling mods the heat issue is under control

Can't we all get along? An M3 is a 3 series car after all...

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!

Sorry just had to say that, tis true, on the 3 series platform.

TO the OP, I would think the 335 would beat you.

And to everyone else arguing...I think we should take a dragster to a circuit and see who wins. Cars are built for different purposes..to each their own.

3 series yes. But the 335 and M3 only share 20% of their parts.

lol

I really enjoy reading the M3 forums because there are more track gurus here (stock for stock the M3 is simply way better suited for tracking).

But I can't help but shake my head over some of the egos here. Oh well...

Call me crazy, but modded for modded, the M3 is better suited as well. Any car can be made faster than another with the right amount of money.

We were out at nola motorsports park yesterday racing the go karts and he kept trying to pressure me into doing it. One of the guys said "dude how about instead of the interstate you just go to the north track 30 yards away and handle it in the "twisties" I said I was down but he just laughed and shook his head. I got this car 2 weeks ago, and I am shocked at how at almost every red light people look at the car, had a few thumbs up already and all, I truly have developed a love for the car.

Pretty much agree on that. But at some point the only major differences between our two cars will be the engines, gearbox and some bodywork (not counting the M badges ).

I would love to take a ride in your car! Too bad you live over the big pond.
