I know i should probably step up to real slicks but I liked the NT01 cause they gave me decent grip at a decent price and they would last me pretty much a whole season if I flipped them on the rims one time. I guess if the R888's suck i'll move on and try something else.
I find the NT01s to be quite stable in terms of grip. Maybe you are running a bit too high pressure wise... What hot pressure do you target?

I saw a thing on tire rack about splices and toyo tires a few days ago. Interesting read and basically it says the splice is normal. You do have to rotate/flip the tires to prevent the splice from getting larger.

I drove with the splice but it got to the point where there was a chunk missing...had to toss them. i think the chunks were ripped off after running over some curbs.

I've heard some people getting tires replaced from splicing/chunking.

Also, discount tire tacks on sales tax which is more than shipping.

$1035 shipped from Performance Tread...beats discount tire

I tried running different pressures to see which worked best. Highest i ever ran was around 40 to 42 hot.

I put a new pair on the front. I've been running 32-35psi hot...no issues so far.

wow, I just found this thread, had no idea of this issue. I've been running NT01s for 2.5 seasons and never had a problem with several sets.

BTW, I start at 28/29 and shoot for 38 hot. Works well for a 20-25min session.

I paid $1,216.11 with heat-cycling shipped. I went with Discount Tire because they could get tires to me in 1 day. Do Performance Tread also do heat-cycling?

That's a bit high for the NT01's. I shoot for 35-37 hot.

^ Try lower pressures. You will find they don't drop off during long sessions.

I guess I'm right in the middle running 35-37 hot.

I start with 29 cold and adj from there to around 35-37 hot. I usually have to keep bleeding off as they heats up and heat soak sets in.

Tires will come up a little more in colder weather as heat soak sets in.

Performance tread does heat cycle. My hot pressures are based on tire temp data. I was running lower and my center section of the tires were running cold. For me I have the feeling they come on later in the session not fall off?

I've called NITTO, they said heat cycling is not needed. So I don't bother. The last two I finished lasted 2 wet days and 6 dry days which is about normal considering how much sliding I do. I only corded one on the right rear. If I had rotated sooner I could have gotten another day. No heat cycling...

I heat cycled this new set to see if it would make a difference with the tread splicing. but from what others have said on here, it may not. I have 5 dry days and 1 wet day (12 sessions total) on my current set. And seeing as though I have at least another day left, that is similar to the tread life you are seeing.

Because of the tire splicing on 3 out of 4 tires, I will be cautious and swap out tires before this weekend!

I would like to hear what tracks this is happening at. I think the track surface and its condition plays a role in the splicing.

could be my first day was at pacific raceways which has a very rough surface although my second day was at the ridge and that is a brand new surface that is perfect.

As you already know for me MSRH and MSRC. Splicing first showed up 3rd day at MSRH.
