New Dunlop Direzza ZIIs - Just Mounted Today!

Picked up a set of the ZIIs today and am glad they fit w/o any rubbing as the shoulders are significantly more square compared the RS-3s of the same size.

I loved the Z1 Star Specs so can't wait for 03/16 & 03/17 when I can flog these for 2 days at Chuckwalla! I'll report more once I have them broken in a bit but so far all I can say is that it's a good looking round of rubber!

So I put about 60 miles on these tires today (mostly freeway) and 2 things were immediately noticeable:

1) these tires are loud - louder than my PS2s, PSSs, and AD08s.
2) they transmit quite a bit of vibration through the steering wheel (like an ultrasonic toothbrush) and are very susceptible to irregularities on the road surface - at times making me think that my balance is off. But when the freeway smooths out, the vibrations go away (the ultrasonic toothbrush like vibrations never go away though).

We'll see how they perform around turns once they break in.

I have similar issues with rc3 when cold.

35psi cold (around 50* ambient) - measured from a good gauge.

Well... learned something new today: you can mess with the calibration and tolerances of a wheel balance machine to get it to read perfect balance.

Took my car to C2 Motorsport and Matt did a phenomenal job of rotating the tires on the rims and re-balancing all 4 wheels. Result? No more vibration.

Crazy thing is that I visually verified that all wheels were in perfect balance at Discount Tire but I guess they have their tolerances set much higher on their machine as every wheel showed out of balance on C2's machine.

Lesson learned!

So far my initial impressions are that these tires are much more "communicative" than the AD08s. Better even at letting me know what's going than the PSSs but with much higher levels of grip.

Chuckwalla in 9 days!
