Premium fuel - why are we getting hosed?
I've been wondering this for a while. Yesterday at the pump, I found that premium is 0.15/L more expensive than regular. I spent the previous weekend in Las Vegas where premium is 0.25/gallon more expensive than regular. Converted, that puts the US price at 6.6 cents more per litre.
So my questions are: -is this simply a supply and demand thing? (perhaps) -does it cost less to produce premium in the US? (probably not) -are Canadian taxes higher on premium fuel? (no idea) -are we simply being gouged in Canada for premium (I think so) What can be done about this, or do we just keep getting fucked like usual? |

if you think that's expensive, where I am, the discrepancy between reg and 93 is sometimes 40c
but that equates to about 4 bucks more, so bring a bag lunch to work, saved 4 bucks right there. |

Great, but that's still 0.105/L, so nearly 5 cents less than we pay. To convert it to US units, we are paying 57 cents per gallon for premium (91 octane) fuel. 94 is 76 cents more per gallon.

supply / demand is the case, then we should see $1.50 gas! demand has been dropping and production either increased or remained the same...
in terms of taxes, it varies state to state but generally, there's the fed + state. I have no idea what those rates are |

Premium by far costs more to produce than regular.
