I've been an avid radar detector user for years. Once you are familiar with how they work they are a tool to reduce your chance of getting a ticket. They are not blanket protection. Even with the best, you still have to use common sense, stay alert, and use your knowledge and experience to reduce your exposure. It's still possible, and quite likely, you will still get tagged once in awhile. Instead of 4 times a year, maybe once a year. Don't go driving like a maniac thinking you're covered by a radar detector. I have the excort 9500x with integrated lazer jammer, which reduces the chances even more. That combination saves me a half a dozen times a month, however I still get the occasional high speed driving award. I figure an average of about one ticket every year or two. Just the price of doing business in the fast lane.

I bought my car used with a K40 jammer installed. The guy that sold me the car said it cost 2k.

I am/was a cheap person. But, I usually believe that you get what you pay for. I have owned a cheap radar detector in the past and it did not work early enough. All it did was tell me "Hey, you just got caught speeding, so you can pull over now." It's like adding insult to injury. It never did anything other than that.

This jammer gives you a few seconds to slow down by essentially blocking the first attempt by the laser gun to check your speed. Also, it detects radar signals early, aimed at other cars from very far away. This gives a few seconds to slow down before within eye shot. The audible voice will say if the radar signal is from the front or rear. When a signal is detected, blue lights flash from the steering column to alert, very hard to miss and you can put the volume on mute to just see the blue lights with no voice. Everything is very well hidden. The only thing you could find would be the 4 inch box in the driver's side door compartment on the bottom that tilts out like 45 degrees.

I drive pretty fast and I don't have a ticket in 9 months of owning an M3. It's slowed me down about 30-40 times. I don't believe that it has ever been wrong. The only thing I worry about is motorcycles with no radar signal.

It's worth the money. I don't know why people are blasting this system. It's been absolutely amazing for me.

9500ix, works great for me. I only do short sprints to top out 4th once in a while . A laser gun did nail me once, but he let me go with a plate "fix it". The worst traps are the ones where the cops are using their eyes and no detector equipment, they usually hide the best.

Valentine 1. This baby has saved me a lot of money, easily the best investment I've made thus far.

The only real protection are shifters... cop will get an error message allowing you to slow down.
The issue is that even with the shifters, you only get a VERY short time to slow down. Either your car will get into range and the laser will "burn through" the jam or the cop will realize that you are close enough and he SHOULDN'T be getting an error.

I have a hardwired Valentine 1, but I'm coveting the built in Beltronics STiR. I may have to find a good place in the Tri-Valley to get one installed.

Why can't someone develop a system that detects a signal, then based on the doppler shift principle, locates the source and displays it on your nav screen.

I was shown the latest released version of the k40 rl360. Install with two sensors was $2400. Senses laser and blinds with IR, then sends back rotating error codes to the laser gun. Can set with a 10 second window and then allows the gun to lock, or completely blind the run the whole time....looked like a wise investment considering tickets do a lot of damage to your record and ins rates. Two or three over a few years is catastrophic.

I currently use Chubb and their rates are nuts, and I have a clean record. Not sure they'd even insure me in an m3 with a few tix, and I'm 38.

V1 and its saved me several times. They have all been radar saves but like another member said, if a cop lasers a car ahead of you it at times bounces off and the v1 can pick it up.

I also really like the directional arrows.. Gives you an idea of the direction it's coming from.

I have the 9500IX but need to get laser jammers.
As others have mentioned it's worthless for lasers, when you hear the "laser alert" it's too late.
It'd kept me out of trouble so far except for one laser ticket which I was able to fight and win

Not exactly what you're looking for but check out the V1 connection. It works with smart phones, just Android for now, but coming out with an iPhone version real soon now. It does other things that increase the usefulness of the V1 too, but I'll be reporting on that later. If you have a V1 and an Android phone then I recommend it.

Cheers.

I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop 4 days after getting my new M a couple weeks ago. I had already gone ahead and put my personalized plate on (Sparti) and turned out his daughter graduated from Michigan State. He let me go.

I have an offer on the passport 9500ci with labor for $1900. They told me at the shop it'a the next gen of the ix as it includes the shifters. They have to wire the damn thing in which I'm not really excited about. Might go with the redline
