Laser Interceptor. Period. Dot. Blinder HP-905 is a close second. All others are just giving you a false sense of security. To the K40 folks, sorry you spent all that money but that thing is worthless. Take a look at some reviews on line and you'll see why. However, ralize that there are very few K40 reviews online. Why you ask? Because K40 sues anyone that gives them a bad review - seriously. The only reason they exist is because of car dealerships.

For radar detection, either a V1 or any Bel/Escort with an M3 antenna (Redline, 9500ci, STI-R or R+, Magnum).

For those that question whether they work or not they either don't know how to own/operate one or have been convinced otherwise by someone who had a cheap a$$ $49 Wal Mart or China special that was really just a little black box with cool green and red lights.

If you're seriously interested in radar detection and laser countermeasures, check out a respectable site like radardetectorforum.org or radardetector.net. Just like everything in this world, a little education goes a long way. But please, feel free to spread the rumor that they don't work - it helps the rest of us educated folks.

For those that think RD's are for reckless drivers - do you you consider 65 in a 55 reckless? It will get you a costly ticket just the same - unless you're warned ahead of time.

Finally, please remember that radar detectors are not "cop" detectors. Nothing beats a good set of eyes and some common sense.

9500ix. Paid for itself 8x times over at this point. Is it perfect, No. But no radar detector will be.

Sort of off topic but at what height on your windshield do you guys like to put the detector at? The rumor is the higher the better. Mine is about 3 inches up from the dash because I don't like obstructing my view but I've seen some people put them in the middle of the windshield, others as high as the rear view mirror. Any right or wrong way?

I've been very happy with my 9500ix, but I currently live in an area where they don't use laser (knock on wood). Otherwise, I would not feel protected in any way without a laser jammer. The GPS lockout feature has been the most valuable to me, as repeated false alarms would lead me to ignore everything or stop using the detector altogether - your personality may vary.

The resources posted above are excellent and you should check them out to find what fits your needs best - there are pros and cons to all of the top detectors (escort, valentine, beltronics, etc).

There's no substitute for driver judgment and awareness, but I do like having a little more peace of mind, and was surprised by how much radar activity I really encounter on a regular basis. Must have avoided several tickets through sheer dumb luck in the past 15 years!

I mount mine so the display is just below my rear view mirror, but I'm not sure if 3 inches above from the dash will significantly affect performance.

WHS - much prefer the 9500 now because its about as sensitive, plus the GPS gets rid of almost all false signals over time. So if it goes off, you know to pay attention.

With laser tho, you're pretty much sol. Keep a "rabbit" up front on the highway

Cheers

Just below the tint line because a) it's out of the way, b) it's harder to see it from outside the car, and c) it's easy to hardwire. Mine is to the right of the rear view.

Search. 9500ix as well. My advice is to stay away from the V1, as it falses too much, unless you do mostly highway driving (I personally own a V1, plus have a friend that uses one, and both false a lot).

I will likely get a laser jammer this year, as I got two solid lasers last year from highway overpasses, though neither time the cop pursued (maybe I wasn't speeding enough). Laser is definitely growing in popularity, but at least around here, there's still a lot of K/Ka in use, and a radar detector is still worth it.

V1 does false a lot, but the directional arrows make it such a more useful tool. I actually thought the arrows were going to go off patent last year. I am surprised others aren't using them by now. Anyone know what's up with that?

You might think it works fine. But a corded one has much better performance, increasing your chances of actually detecting something far enough in advance to do something about it. You can "hardwire" in a corded detector which won't leave any cords hanging. This is a much better alternative to a cordless detector assuming you choose one of the better models.

Cheers.
