Do you use wheel locks?
Would like to do quick survey on wheel locks.
I have a friend with E92 M3 all four wheels stolen in his covered garage in the apartment complex. He and some other friends with M3 has informed me to get wheel locks... since they are targeted a lot. How many of you guys use wheel locks and which ones do you use? Thank you in advance. ![]() |

No I don'. Imo its quicker easier to steal a car, than all 4 wheels. I would rather just replace the wheels than a stolen or more damaged done to the car due to them wanting my wheels. Car is insured.

Most petty thieves or unsophisticated thieves will just give up when they see locks. My old Evo at my old apartment had locks, I came out one morning and saw that petty thieves literally unbolted the 4 standard bolts on one wheel, but then stopped when they realized they needed a key on the 5th. They just left the bolts on the ground and didn't touch anything else. OP, you should get locks. If your car is not parked in a secured garage or location 100% of the time (and most cars are not, think work or dinner, or the "covered" parking lot), then you should get locks, it's mostly to deter the lazy unsophisticated theives. TBH, if thieves wanted your car, they dont' give a shit whether you have an alarm, GPS, immobilizer, any organized criminal activity can flatbed your car and strip it apart before you wake up the next morning and realize your car is gone. I live in an urban area where ppl get towed all the time. I always see tow trucks with cars on them with their alarm going off while in tow. Seriously, no one is calling the cops for you...lol. Granted, I'm sure 99.9999% of those are legitimately getting towed for illegal or private lot parking issues.

I don't put locks on my house doors, b/c if thieves want in, they can smash a window, so therefore, I don't put locks on my doors. ![]()

You would have to use the RAD ones or Kics if you run studs.

RAD. I have them on all 5 bolts for each wheel. It requires 5 different keys to remove.
Had them also on my old E46 and they only managed to unlock 2 until they eventually gave up. |

I don't. I track regularly, and it would suck if I forgot to bring key. If I forgot my socket I can always borrow one.

It's nice in Canada, as wheel locks are standard issue for all new BMW's. At no cost too.

I use OEM locks. If they really want to steal it, they will steal anything, no protection is 100 %. But I like to discourage as many thefts as possible - as someone said already, many (punks) will just pass by when they see the locks.

I once heard a great perspective.
You don't lock your doors to keep hard core criminals out, if they want in, they can get in. You lock your doors so that someone who is not a criminal doesn't become one out of momentary weakness and convenience. Picture your 15 year old neighbor coming to your house to ask for a his dad's rake back that he lent you, just to find the door open. Maybe the rakes in your house, just a little look. Oh, a $100 bill on the counter... Don't mind if I do!
