4k is the new 1080p
Sony introduces their new 84" 4K resolution TV for $25k.
Only 10 movies available in 4k, so it might be a while before the infastructure to support this new tech is mass consumed. I still want to see it in person http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/sto...=S_4KTV#navTop |

I think it was around $15k
Yea $25k is steep, BUT it does include a few cool things like "premium installation" on the wall or however you want it and the remote looks just like an iPad or maybe it is an iPad haha |

I used to work for Tweeter and when plasma TVs first came out, we had a 50" Pioneer Elite unit that we sold for $20k. We called it the "Honda Accord".
So a 4K (I hear it will officially be called UHD - Ultra High Def) TV being introduced at $25k seems reasonable to me. Gotta pay to be the first kid in town with the newest toys. The first consumer DVD players used to be over $2k and the first consumer DVD recorders used to be $10k and so on... like all new technology, it will eventually come down in price once it becomes mass produced. |

I bought one just because it was 25 grand, didn't even know anything about 4k.... I don't even have Blu-ray.

i hope 2k makes it here faster. Seeing videos fullscreen on my retina pro isn't so good :\, even at 1080p.

My pioneer elite was going for $7500 new. Still considered the best picture quality one can get.

From a normal ~8' viewing distance, you probably couldn't even tell the difference from 1080p until the screen is well over 70" or, maybe 50" if you have 20/10 vision.
This'll make enormous screens look slightly less pixelated. That's it. |

it was beautiful, but as many have stated, the difference between 1080p and 4k is negligible and I doubt they had any content for it to display.
I could tell there was something, but I walked out of there thinking it was just a huge 1080p LED screen. The store was moronic in that it put no advertising for it, and we stumbled upon it while picking up a PS3 controller. It was well out of sight!
