It almost seems like the darker/shadier the lighting, the brighter Melbourne red looks and the brighter the lighting, the duller the Melbourne red looks.

Nice. You lucky dog. Can you say ENVIOUS. I bet we are do not see them on lots here in the US until Feb 08 at the earliest so this will also likely be the first IRL experiences and possibly drives for almost all us NA-ans. Enjoy!

When out in the car earlier. when you put your foot down it gets to about 5500 rpm and you feel as if its time to change gear but you have another 2900rpm left and boy does it march to that red line... as i said before its quite breath taking the way you get shoved back in to your seat...

People trust me it makes and E46 M3 feel like a kids toy!!! and exhaust note is very nice you will all be impressed. But in the wet i can see traction be a big problem in the wet!!!! The traction light will be flashing alot!!! but a quick change of the M drive settings sorts that out...

I wonder which unlucky sod is going to get this ex-demo car (or is it a customer car) after the run-in procedure hasn't been complied with.



I know some people argue that the best way to run a car in is to drive it like you stole it, but I don't think dealers should be going against official BMW policy with regards the run-in.

I will be looking forward to some nice clear Jerez pics (hopefully on a sunny day). I am also interested in your personal observations regarding Jerez as the pics sometimes don't tell the whole story. While your at it, please do tell if Fox Red looks more Red?, Maroon? or Caramel? Brown??? I still can't get a bead on that color! Thanks!

so guys you all go to a dealer and want to demo the new m3. as you get in the sales person says sorry sir you can only drive up 2 3000rpm because we havnt coverd 1200miles..... Im sure you will be very understanding and say thats not a problem it must be run in correctly... (I DONT MIND) yeah right you will all want to thrash it...

Any demo will be a long time untill they put 1200 miles on as they will probably sell them on with 2000miles on after.

First of all, if the run-in procedure is like all the other M cars, you are advised to limit the revs at 5,500rpm until 1200 miles, not 3,000rpm.

However, even this number of revs won't allow you to really see what the car is like.

If cars are going to be used as demos then either they have to be run-in first, OR not released into the dealer network and sold on, OR given a special extended warranty.

Otherwise what is the point of BMW clearly stating a run-in procedure if it's not even going to be applied by the dealers?

Eh?

Is it not reasonable to expect that if somebody buys an ex-dealer owned M3 (or whatever model for that matter) from an official BMW dealer, that they expect the clearly stated run-in procedure to be adhered to?

I think someone who buys a demo car will/should be aware of the risks.
