Pushing Down to get in Reverse?

It seems that I have to push very little to put my transmission into reverse. It pretty much just takes the weight of my hand resting on the gear selector and pushing left passed the 1st-2nd gate.

I can't remember if it has always been this way or if the pressure required has become less with time, but I actually put the car in reverse yesterday by accident. Anyone else have the same experience or do you have to actually push down a bit to get to reverse?

You don't have to push down, just left and forward.

The default gate is 3/4. If you push a little too hard to the left, you'll occasionally catch reverse instead of first. I imagine that over time the detent spring will weaken somewhat. Just be careful. Getting reverse instead of first when the light turns green can be a real bummer!

Thinking about potentially doing this is giving me cold sweats. Please, no.

I had this problem before on the track, shifting hard and fast trail braking into a sharp corner from 3 to 2 and instead of going into the 2 gate it went into the gate where reverse was but good thing reverse is the other direction of where 2 is.... I only noticed after i let the clutch out and gave it gas and the car was revving in neutral...

Ya...I came very close to hitting the car behind me. If I push directly left with no pressure on the gear selector at all (hand on the right of the selector instead of on top), the car will not go left passed the 1-2 gate so I think there has to be some kind of pressure. I'm glad to know that it is not just me though.
