Spy Photos: 2008 BMW M3 at Regensburg Plant, Sunroof Optional?

Quote:
From the pictures, it seems like the sunroof is optional which is great news for all the BMW fans that wanted to shed off a few pounds out of their car to make it faster

I'll probably trade in my e46 m3 when M-DCT comes out in the e92 M3.

Testing. All the procedures ect. Remember Germany and UK get the vehicles before us, so those could easily be models going to them.

I think you got that backwards, in the sense that for the e9x M3, the sunroof is an option to ADD, not remove. If I'm not mistaken, the carbon-fiber roof is standard. The sunroof option is probably for those customers, who would rather have the luxury than the weight savings and lowering of center of gravity.

I always think it funny when people demand more performance, but insist on things that reduce it (e.g., moonroof, larger heavier wheels, etc.).

BTW - I was with my friend in Germany recently where he picked up his Porsche GT3...sucks that removing the sunroof for that car is NOT optional. He would've opted out for sure if he had the choice.

The very fact that the E92 M3 has four seats, a stereo, and other amenities tells us that this car is a compromise. It's a 2+2 coupe that also offers mobility and near luxury for its occupants. The Lotus Elise 2-seater on the other hand was offered at inception with the option of omitting even the carpet. To many, the M3 is not just another powerful, fast car, but it was not made to sell as an off-the-showroom floor race car.

How many times is this subject going to come up? This is something which is widely known, and has been for a long time.

They have a sunroof delete for the GT3, the option code is 'RS' :-)

On a more serious note, I agree it's very disappointing that they don't offer a sunroof delete on the 911 range, particularly on the GT3.

Sunroof is only mandatory on US GT3s. You can have it deleted on Euro spec cars, without having to buy an RS.
