6MT Transmission - Anyone stripped one down yet?

G'day People,

Has anyone pulled the 6MT gearbox from the car yet? More specifically, does any know of the part number for the Input Shaft bearing? (I believe it to be a F.A.G. made bearing).

I know BMW will only supply the box as a sealed unit, I was looking at a work around to get the bearing direct from the manufacturer.

Any reason for this overhaul?

I've had my manual for five years without dramas. Still going strong. Hopefully it is not something you think is wrong with the car. Good Luck!

I pretty sure there is a proprietary relationship where the manufactuer can only provide these parts to BMW. Trying to do an end run around this may prove to be very difficult.

Vic311 - Maybe so, but I would have thought that this is a pretty garden variety bearing, that if not available from original manufacturer, probably had a direct replacment from one of the other major bearing manu's.

AussieM3 - No cause for concern as yet. I have sought 1 workshops opinion on a slight g/box noise, that it may have been an input shaft bearing. I haven't had the box out of the car for a proper diagnostic, so I'm simply gathering some info at the moment.

I think you would have to contact ZF and see if you can figure out from them what the part number for the bearing is from them.
