Don't do it! My friend did his m3 with smoked tail lights and got rear ended/totaled the insurance company of the party denied the claim because smoked tail lights "are hazardous and reduce brake light visibility" end of story he has a totaled m3 with no coverage

Thank you. This is the reason that only a dumbass would smoke out tail lights,

I always cringe when I see smoked lights. It's really tacky.

Don't care for it myself, but if must be done...Need to ensure its light enough to only notice the diff, not murder them out. My 2 cents worth...

If you're going to do it. The only proper way is to have it sprayed by a body shop.
They take clear coat with a drop of black in it and layer it on until the desired darkness is achieved.

Agreed. My neighbor just had his 335 tails sprayed on a black car. Looks decent, but the other poster is right. You get rear-ended and insurance wont cover it. She would be SOL.

E90 smoked tail lights

I agree with the above comments. I took mine to a professional and I get a lot of compliments but now that it's close to that time to sell my car, one of the main requirements is putting my tail lights back to stock.
