Some 2008 M3 Drivers seem to be concerned about High Milage

I've read below in this forum section (seams to be a 2011 thread "2008 Owners Bailing out") that some of you 2008 Drivers are concerned about keeping your car after warranty expires and how the car would hold out on high milage ....

In general if you purchased your car new then you know what condition your car has seen over the years.

If you purchased the car used I assume you done your research before you purchased the car such as review of prior inspection reports pre purchase inspection, prior ownership of the car etc.

Then keep in mind that BMW does build a good and reliable car, fine not in the old days time does change things and the saying "they don't build them like the used to" also holds true in some respect here to stuff made by BMW. Still they do have a great aprantirship program for there staff.

Now if you like to read about some high mileage cars go here to this forum thread and read all about it.

Check it out here -----> Click here to open the thread on high milage of BMW cars in this forum

Having said all that you need to evaluate this issue by having your car inspected and based on the results make a decision if it is worthwhile keeping or is it time for a new one.

Also don't miss to have a read of this ----> Click here and enjoy the read

Good Luck !

Good post..not taking away from BMW M engine design, but there is a natural apprehension due to the massive cost of parts/labor on cars out of warranty.

I believe you get out what you put in. If cars are abused they will suffer later in life

repair cost is high.. but risk is relatively low given the reliability on the e9x M3's since 2008

My friends M3 2007 has done 180.000km now and its still runing good as new. The only setback has been the throttle issue and he has changed one of them.Beside this nothing outside normal. And his car lives a hard life both on track and street. So I think we worry to much about milage!

I've got 57K now. I bought it to drive it, not watch it sit.

I'd be concerned more about little electrical glitches and gremlins before things like the engine and drivetrain components. With all the electronics in the car, it's risky.

The highest mileage used E90+ M3 I could find on autotrader only has 93k miles. You beat it by 3k miles. Truly drive like its meant to be driven.

E92 M3 engine is truly "forever car" material. My 08 had over 60k and it was still going very strong. Does the 2013 more peppy? yes, but that's to be expected. Plus the 240E software I'm sure has something to do with it.

Many on this forum consider anything over 30k high mileage

Considering I have seen absolutely no evidence whatsoever that these cars start having problems with age I think the fear is completely irrational.

electronic issues would be my main concern... but I believe that you can get a sense of your cars stability in that area earlier in life.

that is part of the reason i leased my car... I figured if its good for 3 years chances are it is a good vehicle for the long run, however had my share of lemon german cars that had problems from day 1 .

great thing about a lease.. if its bad return it in the end, if its good keep it ! haha

This all comes from too many M3 guys who baby their cars too much. They are too worried about selling it later on. They boast their mileage and that their car never sees rain... oh please. Clean it, maintain it properly... and DRIVE it. Take care of the car and it will take care of you. These motors can last a LONG time.

Got 87k on my ///M and I commute 120 miles a day during the work week. Got 250k miles on my 330ci. Just maintain the damn thing and you'll be fine.

Nothing wrong with babying your car..but those that baby them to the point of not driving them is a no no. You need to exercise these cars..more harm than good results from just letting them sit

I think I've got the perfect car. No iDrive, comfort access or other stuff except for DCT. DCT has proven to be pretty reliable thus far. Only issues have been self inflicted ones.

My main concern is engine failures. Unlike the S54 which was produced in 01-06 M3s, late Z3Ms, Z4Ms, and both coupes, there will be a good market of used parts out there. A decent, used, and complete S54 (oil pan to valve cover) runs at most $4,000. Not terrible. The S65 on the other hand was only in E9X M3s from 08-13. I can't be certain that the S65 will follow the S62 but used S62 engines are still pretty damned expensive and the worst part...hard to find.

Right now, you're probably crawling back to the dealer if you F' up an S65 block or head(s) which represents about 60% of the valule of a used M3.

54k miles since new now.
it's been the most reliable car i've owned.
z4m on the other hand has had warranty work due to workmanship, like loose bolts and headlight washer covers flying off.
