Best 9500ix Mounting Location?
Hey E9XPost,
I was just wondering where you consider the optimal mounting position for a 9500ix to be. Ive always read that the higher up the unit is, the better? Not sure if thats true? I was just going to place it right under the rear-view mirror. Any advice on where to place it is appreciated, i got the unit for christmas! Post pictures of your setup E

Mount high. I had mine mounted to the left of the rear view mirror as well.

I have my 8500 X50 mounted just above the left side of the rearview mirror so that the mirror helps support it. It's hard wired into the Homelink wiring right by the mirror.

I placed mine to the "right" of the rear-view, it's rather inconspicuous.
This way in the rare chance that I am pulled over cops won't see it as they walk up to my door. Not that it's illegal to have one, but I'd rather not have a cop judge me and base whether giving me a ticket or not on the fact that I have a radar and was trying to avoid authorities.

if it's on the right with a visor down... that would be weird (unless you always have a passenger) Mine is hardwired through the interior light and i have it on the left by the mirror

As a countermeasure enthusiast, what would you recommend? Hardwired? No hardwire and keep the SmartCord with mute button? Left/right/low/high?

I have my 8500 mounted low, almost touching the dash. I've thought about placing it up higher as most of you recommend, but I worry that the suction cups will fail (which they often do during the summer months) and it will fall down and either mess up the radar or my dash/center console/etc.

I wired mine like this. http://www.bmwm3.org/diy_valentine_v1.shtml That's for a V1, but the steps are the same except the X50 just clamps onto the power lead directly. You'll see when you get to Steps 6 and 7.

Ditto. Left of rearview mirror. I have it hardwired into the fuse box. I took the A-pillar cover off, had it run next to the airbag, along the headliner, and it's between the visor and mirror. It has an unobstructed view, it's easy to see and hear, and a cop poking his head in the car probably won't notice it. The smartcord button sticks out of the console just by my right knee, so I can tap it with my knee if it's making noise.

mine has come off the suction cups in the past, but i have made the hardwire wire very snug so it just tangles. doesn't hit anything.

High up is best because it provides a clear line of sight to both front and rear sensors of the 9500ix. Mine is mounted (when looking at rear view mirror), to the right hand side of mirror and right above it. The radar almost touches the roof lining.
The radar is hardwired by the "Fuse Tap" method via Fuse Box in the glove compartment. There are many posts on "Hardwire/Fusetap" for radars on the forum. |

Definitely hardwire and mount to the left of RVM. I've got a non metallic tint strip hiding it from the front and my visor will block view from rear if I desire. Ive got the remote mute button mounted near the coin tray

And the remote mute button, is this the SmartCord your talking about? The SmartCord has to plugged into the cigarette socket i thought? Also, above, below, or aligned with the RVM?
