blue tooth
Last night, I was playing with my Iphone 5 while warming up the car and I know our car 2008 M3 E90 doesn't have Bluetooth. After I turn on the radio then when i started to play the game app on the phone while I was waiting. All the sudden my car speakers play the game music. I was surprised, I looked at my navi screen and it showed I was in the dialing mode with seconds counting but I wasn't even calling. Later, I checked the call history and no calls were made. Isn't this strange??
I was trying to duplicate this over and over and I can't get it to work and the game music only plays out from Iphone's speaker. This incident made me believe, there is a way to play music over blue tooth with our navi from smart phone and we don't need the stupid aux cable. I am not smart with electronic or gagets and hope someone can chin in something that I don't know. I would love to use Bluetooth to play music. My gf's Acura can and she asked me how come my M can't?? I was speechless. |

My car is a 2008 and it does have BlueTooth connectivity. I do use the hands free phone feature (we are not allowed to use hand held phones while driving here in Quebec).

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't being clear.
I have Bluetooth option using cell phone but I can't use Bluetooth to play music (most of newer car plays smart phone's mp3 songs over the Bluetooth). I was talking about using Bluetooth to play your mp3 songs stored in the phone instead using aux cable plug in into car and phone. |

I can do it with the iPhone 5 in my 2011, but couldn't with my 4.
You have to be connected with Bluetooth, and then without plugging it in go in to the aux area and press play on the phone. I just happened to figure this out one day myself and had no idea it could be done. |

I dont think it works with 08 models. I have tried many different ways and failed. It would be awesome if someone can find a way to do it though.

Bluetooth can stream in either music or voice modes.
This audio was coming through as a call which is too low quality to listen to music IMHO. I believe you need to have the extended Bluetooth functionality package (not sure the name) to properly stream music. This "trick" will work but sounds terrible. Aux cable is better the Bluetooth anyway so I would just stick with that. |

Its a fluke - I had the same thing happen to me when I had my '08, would have been with an iphone 4 or 3 though. I could never get it to repeat on command. Just every once in a while. It never happend with actual music though, just some of the other apps.
Same thing though - nav screen displayed as if a call was in progress |

I agree, it was a fluke but somehow if it happens once then I believe it can be done just we are not the expert with twitting electronics. Thanks Jaypod, at least now I know there are others experienced the same.
Aus M, I used Bluetooth plays music when I drive my gf's Acura TSX, the sound quality is good, not bad at all. |
