The truth about matte "frozen" BMW colors
I'd like to hear from people who have actually owned one of these or have first hand knowledge... I see a lot of frozen limited editions for sale on the used market lately, which makes me wonder if caring for the paint is really a huge hassle?
I know you can't polish or compound them....but how delicate is the finish with regard to bird droppings, sap, etc?? Any info is appreciated....

At the beginning, I was really afraid about that kind of paint... But regular washes are enough to keep the car clean. |

What happens when you get a scratch or swirl marks? It is inevitable that you will get micro scratches in the clear coat from washing. Can you polish out these defects or are you SOL?

Guys frozen colors have the same clear coat as any other car only in a matte finish and maybe slightly different ingredients but it function like any other clear coat in terms of polishing, buffing and cleaning it. Its no different to take care of. only if you get a scratch through clear coat is it a pain because there are no easy touch up or repaint options

My Frozen silver is very easy to take car of. I installed a full satin/matte bra on the front of my car as I take mine to the track. It is very easy to wash and and maintain the paint. I have had bird droppings etc on my car and I have just made sure i have cleaned them off with in a day or two and have not had any marks etc. The only pain is the rubber marks on the bra from the track, but you can deal with those easy enough. |

Totally irresponsible to misinform people like this on a forum where people look for accurate information. Your advice would destroy the frozen finish requiring expensive correction.

Minor swirls (from washing and such) are actually less of an issue on the frozen colors because your eye can't detect them. So you pretty much just wash, dry and go as some of the others have said. There are some waxes made for the matte finishes (I know that Swissvax makes one) but I don't know how necessary those really are.
What would concern me most with a frozen finish as a daily driver are chips, since you can't touch them up. With chips or deep scratches, it seems you have to live with them or do a full panel repaint. The matte clear bra option sounds like a pretty good idea for a daily driven frozen vehicle.

Didn't mean it in a negative way. A real enthusiast would put paint choice as one of the last options when picking a car. I'm not a true enthusiast for many reasons so I'm not calling anyone out

I'm an enthusiast of sexing looking German sports cars- that goes for ones with a matte or gloss clearcoat. I'm an also an enthusiast of naturally aspirated, high-revving engines. I'm also an enthusiast of driving my car rather than sitting behind my Porter Cable orbital buffer. What the f@ck is an enthusiast!? ![]()

Wait a minute..I understand not compounding/polishing it which removes layers of paint..but wax "adds" layers of protection
Sounds like you would definitely want to wax it regularly, as you want as much protection on it since you can't polish/compound it ![]() |
