Extremely depressing photos. I had my wife's E53 X5 keyed once while having dinner with a friend.

I am sure you will get a very good paint job done where ever you may take it. I am glad you are dealing with it better than you expected. Hope you get your car back in excellent condition.

I felt anxiety reading this thread. I had a van keyed ones and that almost put me on Ativan what more on an m3. All I can say is if you have one single doubt parking in a certain place specially for long periods. DON'T DO IT!

I can truly sympathize with you. My ex girlfriend had a stalker. He keyed my entire car (except the roof). Looked like 3-year old was using an ice pick as a crayon. Fortunately, insurance will cover it.

In the end, he got a nice month long stay at the grey bar motel courtesy of the LA City Attorney (mostly for stalking). I hope they catch your guy, put him in a bath tub and throw in a toaster.

Sony's Actioncam would be my choice. It's black and very small so it should blend well with the dash. You wouldn't want a broken window too!

sorry to see that, your reaction is alot better then mind would have been! Is there any chance of spot painting to try and save factory finish?

Swamp2, where exactly in Irvine did this happen. I live in Irvine and work down the street from you (in the office towers by the Marriot). In fact I think i've seen you around the block (then again M3's are as common as Civic's in the area

especially space gray & alpine white ones). This was not random vandalism unless you were close to the Carl's Jr which gets late traffic.

Someone took the effort to inflict maximum damage. If you don't think it could have been someone you know I'd say you inadvertently pissed someone off in traffic and they followed you.

That's what I was thinking as well. Act of road rage perhaps? You just can't tell nowadays with people on the road. Swamp, did Penske say the whole car needs to be resprayed?

Sorry to see this and hope it gets repaired quickly. If the whole car does need a repaint, maybe consider a whole new color.

I agree that parking extra far away makes you a target at times. I don't mind walking, but I don't even bother anymore.

Also agree that it's likely not a random act.

I actually prefer the entire panels to be refinished. Either way the panels would each be entirely clear coated.

Office park, more or less SE corner of I-5 and Jamboree.

The car was parked for many hours after my arrival and before the damage. If that was at all possible they would have had to follow me, note my location and return much later with the off chance the car would still be there (after 7 p.m.).

I agree (as did the Police) that the level of damage indicates some very strong personal feelings. I just cannot come up with a single suspect. It's impossible to know for sure but I am still strongly suspecting it was more or less random. Random less the choice of a reasonably nice car.
