oh man especially with Jetblack I would NOT let a handwash place wash your car. I would either do it myself using the two bucket method OR take it to a professional detailer that may offer car washes w/out any detailing.

^This. Made the mistake of letting a local car wash place (came recommended, though) do a hand wash on my Jerez Black M3, and suffice it to say... fawking swirl marks EVERYWHERE!

Richard Lin @ http://www.showcardetailing.com/

There are numerous raves about his products on this forum.

Also, he sells his car wash products for when you have time to self wash. 5 Stars.Stars.

Now since I can't have Richard wash my car every week, I do it at self car wash spots throughout LA, usually later in the evening so I can do the two bucket method without creating a cue.

Places I like are:
Ocean Park & Main - Santa Monica
Crenshaw & Carson - Torrance
Lincoln & Washington - MdR

When I'm desperate, I go to touch-less car washes:
Shell, Crenshaw & Lomita - Torrance
Chevron, Briston & Paularino - Costa Mesa

Do you guys have self car washes and/or touch-less spots of choice??

How do you perform the two bucket method at a self serve car wash considering they the brush for applying the soap?

I bring my own sponges, car shampoo (BMW's or Meguire's Gold), two buckets, and 3 jugs of water (because it is almost impossible to fill your buckets with water using the high-pressure nozzles at the self car wash without getting yourself completely soaked.)

Have you seen the 1 gallon Crystal Geyser jugs at the supermarket? I re-use those and refill with tap water before heading out. You could use distilled water as well, but it would be sort of pointless because you would be rinsing the car from tap at the self wash anyways.

Self car washes: Imperial HWY and Main in El Segundo. Prefer this one over MDR. MDR bays are narrow, dirty, and equipment is old. Use two bucket system all the time and haven't had any issues with creating a cue.

Back when I lived in an apt that didn't have any carwash designated areas I would take 2 5 gallon buckets already filled with water, all my car wash supplies, and 2 big jugs of filtered water to my local coin operated place. A lot of those types of places won't let you bring your own stuff but I never had any problems since I would go there on a sat morning at like 6 or 7am. I would use their water for initial rinse and then again to rinse off the soap. I would use one of the filtered jugs during the wash process so that the soap wouldn't dry up. After rinse I would take the other jug of filtered water to do a last rinse so that drying the car would be easier with less water spots.

Thanks for this tidbit. I will try the Imperial/Main location next time... most likely after the few showers forecasted to drop sometime Monday.

I agree, the MdR is very narrow, usually crowded, and pain in the ass to maneuver around. The Santa Monica one only has 4 stalls and last week one of them was broken and one had no lights, so it was pretty bad.

I've never had issues with Crenshaw/Carson in Torrance, there's 8 stalls, but it's so out of the way...

Thanks man

Yea Crenshaw/Carson is pretty far out of the way for me too. MDR is the closest to me, but I'd rather drive an extra 5 mins to get to the El Segundo one. It has either 7 or 8 stalls.

And I agree with one of your earlier responses...I'll hit up a touchless drive through wash when I'm desperate(feeling lazy). HAHA. Still going to the same one I suggested on the thread you started.

Let me know when you decide to try the El Segundo one. I need to wash soon. If I'm avail... I'm down to go with.

Wow! El Segundo one rocks! I went there two Thursdays ago. So spacious and the newest self car wash equipment I've used. Some hooligans in a raised pickup truck were blasting Power106 while washing so I got a nice soundtrack in the background to keep me moving.

When you are in OC, the Bristol/Baker Cheveron's touchless wash is the best in its class IMHO.

Before dropping the M off in Munich, I used a touchless wash at a gas station around the corner from the drop-off zone. It was the length of a trailer truck and it was sublime! Haven't found anything as good in SoCal yet.
