Houston, TX: Remus Sport Exhaust Install - Recommended Shops?

I might be getting a Remus Sport Exhaust soon. Can anybody recommend a Houston, TX shop (and contact name) who has experience with installing Remus Sport/Race exhausts on a 2008 M3 Coupe?

I'm concerned about an install error in cutting off the stock exhaust. What if the installer cuts at the wrong location and the Remus tail pipes end up sticking out of the back bumper too far...or worse, not far enough.

I had an exhaust system installed by River Oaks Auto Repairs, and they did a good job.

I would recommend buying a set of connecting pipes. That way you don't have to cut the OE exhaust. It may be a good idea to keep the OE muffler+connecting pipes when you sell your car.

rldzhao: Man, I saw your ad for for your Eisanmann Sport, I would've bought that from you, but looks like you sold it.

If I get connecting pipes though, won't I lose my cats? I need to be street legal to pass the smog test when it comes time.

Frank- You would not lose your cats. If you look under your car, you can see your exhaust 'box' with two curved-shaped pipes. These are the 'connecting pipes'

In order to install the Remus without the connecting pipes, you would have to hack off your stock 'box' if you understand what i mean.

Let me know if you need any clarifications since I'm being kinda vague

See attached picture. Bascially the stock M3 exhaust system has 3 sections that are bolted together: 1) headers, 2) cats+2nd cats+resonators, and 3) connecting pipe+muffler.

The connecting pipes I was referring to are the section 3 pipes. The Remus system you are getting only replaces the mufflers, so you would either cut the stock section 3 or buy a new set of connecting pipes.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks for the diagram. Very helpful.

I think I'm going to go with the Remus Sport and get the stock mufflers cut off. I'm really looking for a shop in Houston that has experience in cutting off the stock mufflers off a 2008+ M3 and then installed a Remus Sport (or Race) Exhaust. My concern is I need to make sure the shop cuts the muffler off at the correct point. I'd hate for the cut to be in the wrong location, wherein the Remus mufflers stick out too far or (even worse) not far enough from the rear of the car.

Riss Racing Axel-Back Exhaust

Ah, and the Riss Racing system already comes with the connecting pipes. Decisions decisions, now I might be interested in getting the Riss Racing because it will not require any cutting of stock system.

There is nothing special inside the stock connecting pipes right? (no cats, no resonator)?

Rldzhao: Can you use your mad photo editing skills and label in your picture where the stock cats and resonators are? Thanks!

Can anyone comment on the Riss Racing system? How does it compare to a Remus Sport or Eisenmann Sport? How is the sound level inside the cabin of the car? Still able to hold conversations without yelling at your passengers?

Didn't know that was a terrible price. I haven't gotten around to getting exhaust yet. In Houston, most of the BMW specialty shops are expensive. This isn't socal where BMW specialty shops are a dime a dozen.

They installed my springs at half of what my normal place quoted me. Not only that they did the install in about 45 minutes while I waited, b/c its kind of far out.

How much did RO Auto Repair charge you? I tend to get a bunch of parts hold on to them for a while and then get them all installed at once, which is why I prefer these specialty shops instead of running all over town to get stuff installed.

$360 to install Eisenmann from Bavarian?! That's sounds expensive, considering the Eisenmann is bolt-on. I was expecting more like one hour..for $80.

Rldzhao: How much did Motorwerks install your exhaust?

It usually takes 1hr-2hrs max and should be charged accordingly.

I actually have an Active Autowerke Signature exhaust, so don't need any connecting pipes.

Whoa, this is an old thread!

I didn't know 'Frankie' was considering the Remus before.

Well, he's pretty happy with his AA since it's a complete bolt-on, that's for sure.

If I get the remus exhaust and hack the OEM muffler off, can I get the OEM mufflers welded back on when i sell the car without too much difficulty?

Thanks!
