OE 18's, upgrade to wider rear tires...

Looking to change the OE tires. The car came with OE 18'" BMW wheels, front tires- 245/40 and rear tires- 265/40 Mich PS2.
For the rear ratio, is a 275/35 tire (Michelin SS) the correct upgrade size?
Thanks

From my quick calculations, the optimal one is a 275/40 18, not the 275/35.

stock 265/40 is 26.35" tall
275/35 is 25.58" tall
275/40 is 26.66" tall

Far less varience with the 40 aspects. I have the 275/40 18's (PS2s) on my rear.

You are correct, the 275/40's are the way to go. Thank you!

I was curious to see the cost difference and maybe get a few millimeteres more performance. The stock size, 265/40 rears is probably what I'll get.
Thanks for the input!!

Did you also go wider on the fronts?

I'm going to need new tires sometime this spring..

Thanks!

Not as of yet. For some odd reason my rear tires wear out 3 times as quick as the fronts.

I do run 265/35 18's on apex arc-8 wheels for auto-x on the front though. But for my street tires I still use the stock OEM tire size.

It's a mystery to me why the rears would wear out faster. Time for a class action lawsuit!

265/35's might be the ticket... I'll have to look at that for a stock front wheel...

Will 275/40's fit? I'd just do 275/35s.

On the front? Hell no, on the rear there's room to do all kinds of wacky stuff, there's TONS of room but the front is only going to handle about a 26" tire before it starts to wear out the fender liners

I'd go 255/40 with 275/40 in the rear, the 265/35 is more than 1" shorter than the rears when paired with a 275/40 and that's a big split

Thanks Richbot. 255/40/18 and 275/40/18 it is.

I'll be burning off the PS2's later this spring at the San Diego Chapter driving school.
