For what it's worth, I carpool with my coworker shes got 335Xi, our mpg is about the same. Round trip to and from work is a quarter of the tank. I had chance to drive X3 2.8 recenetly for two days as rental and that car wasnt that much better with gas.

Poor gas mileage is one of the reasons I traded my 2009 M3 for a 2013 Audi S4. I was averaging 12.7 MPG in DC. The price of gas wasn't the issue for me...it was the frequency of fill-ups. I couldn't even make it 7 days without refueling. The S4 is so much better, as it's much more fuel efficient.

I'm not sure how you guys average over 20 MPG on the highway with the M3. I drove from Atlanta to DC on all highways with cruise control most of the way...I averaged 20.5 MPG...

Probably because many M3 drivers are coming from having owned sports cars all their life, not coming from a family sedan to an M3... For me, this car is a HUGE improvement in daily driving over my EVO.

I got 23.5 coming from Asheville NC to Northern VA on 81. Average speed was about 80mph.

335's and 330s of prior 2 gens with the sport package basically had similar ride qualities to an E9X ZCP w/ adaptive suspension settings (Comfort), and would say the M3 Non ZCP feels actually feels softer than the prior 2 gens in Comfort Mode.

Why are you passing over the new 328i? Lease one for under 300/mo put a hartge tune on it for a grand and make 300hp and still get over 32mpg.
