Recently purchased E92 M3, front bumper issue

Hello all,

Recently purchased an '08 E92 M3 with around 44k on the clock with great service history and no accidents reported.

However, the previous owner mentioned that he suspected some damage to the front bumper, as the fender liner didn't line up correctly.
Could this be caused by incorrect installation of the bumper and/or fender liner? Or something else that isn't lining up correctly?

I'm somewhat concerned because I can't seem to find anything about it through searching on here and I've never seen it on other E9x M's.

Thanks!

Take the wheels off and take of the liner. Probably the person before didn't put the liner back in correctly or the liner got moved by a low speed impact to the bumper

Will do. Was hoping that it was just installed incorrectly.
Thanks!

the fender liner is a bit jacked up. you might have a shitty replica bumper or something. that lip fits like crap to. jack up the front, take the wheels off and see what you can massage back into place. if nothing lines up, i suspect the bumper isn't right. i have a weird hunch that someone replaced the bumper with a cheap replica.

Previous owner must have been a real hack job & purchased the cheapest shit parts they could find - you could get a 2x4 to fit better than the fitment of that cf spoiler

The plastic parts that attach the liners to the bumper (called FELTS by the laymen on here) are damaged or missing! Very common...about $100 per side.

If I were to ever come across an issue like this, I would refuse to buy the car unless the seller addresses it. If they are willing to address it, then you know it is a small fix. If they refuse, then you can assume it is a much bigger issue or there is some underlying story you are not aware of.

I'm with him, most likely the felt boxes are damaged, there are pretty existing holes for those felt boxes can be torn and the metal clips that receive the screw is also probably missing. Kind of a pricey fix, but I would jack up the car and check.

My fender liners are the exact same way. The cause of this is warped/torn off/otherwise jacked up front undercarriage felt pieces. Depending on where the damage is and how it occurred, you may need to replace the fender liners themselves if the attachment points for the felt undercarriage pieces are torn off. If the attachment points are in-tact, all you would need to do is replace the felt undercarriage pieces and that should keep your fender liners in the correct position if the liners themselves were not warped.

Just to report back and confirm; I installed brand new OEM felt undercarriage pieces yesterday and my fender liners no longer stick out or comes out at all. Previously, my fender liners looked exactly like your pictures in the original post does.

Felt belly pans are what you need.
