vs 997 turbo

So I've been thinking of a 997 turbo to replace the m3 a few years down the road when prices start coming down...

what I'd like to know is how the 2 compare on the FUN scale....

The Turbo is a completely different beast with AWD. It's properly quick though, and just keeps pulling and pulling and pulling.

driven the PDK, absolute monster. The 6 screams more than you can imagine. The turbo provides a swift kick in the ass. I liked it.


There will be a bunch of fanboys who say they'd rather an M3 over it, it's nonsense. The turbo is on an entirely different level. In every aspect. Power delivery, brakes, sound, cabin feel, everything.

Longboarder will probably be able to give you a good review on it, he owns both a DCT M3 VT625 and a modded PDK 997.2tt! I don't want to put words in his mouth but I'll tell you this, a used 911tt has always been my ultimate goal and after hearing him comparing both, he basicly sayd that the 911 even though faster is not really more fun to drive, if not less fun, so I concluded that keeping my M3 was probably the better move for me! The fun/$ ratio being my main criteria(like most people on a budget), I believe that at half the price of the 911, my s/c M3 will do a better job at keeping me happy!

Also the other day, me and a friend who already drove my M3 took a ride in an other friends 600hp GT-R(wich is probably similar in feel as a 911tt) and the general consensus was that my s/c S65 was more fun! I'll probably test drive a turbo 911 some day and see what it's all about but for now I'll take Longboarders words for credit and save my money!

I'll finish with this little advice, if what you're after is something similar to the M3 but with much more power, go test drive a supercharged M3!

the two cars are worlds apart. a 997.2 tt is hands down a more exciting and fun car than an E9x M3.

You can actually convert a Turbo into RWD? Why not just get a GT2 then?

Nowadays you can have a 600 whp porsche 996 turbo for under 50k if you look hard enough

These are two totally different cars. Not really comparable but I can try.

I like my M3 (they way I have it built) better as an overall car. The only car I would prefer to drive everyday would be a 458 Italia. I have given a number of people back-to back rides in my cars. Fortunately I live in an area with not a lot of traffic and wide roads where I can take the cars to their limits. The consensus is unanimous - the M3 is the winner (although everyone trips out on the 911 launch control 0-60 blast in 2.6 to 2.8 seconds).

Yes the Turbo S has a tremendous amount of grip and acceleration at any speed. it is the platform I will be using for my straight-line race events. I am toying also using it at the track as I just spent a fortune on a perfect suspension build by BBI. Despite that, I can say that right now I still prefer the M3 at the track. Being the fastest on the track isn't everything to me. Also 0-60 isn't everything.

Here's what I favor about the M3:

1) Powerband
2) Sound
3) Thottle response
4) Handling precision and feedback
5) "Tossability"
6) Comfort
7) Interior (looks, technology, etc)
8) Sound system
9) Practicality (being able to carry anything I need)

Here's what I like about the Porsche:

1) acceleration from zero or low speed to 100 mph faster than just about any motorized vehicle on the planet
2) low speed cornering grip and and straight line acceleration grip

What I do not like about the M3:

1) Off-the line traction/acceleration

What I do not like about the Porsche:

1) Handling is twitchy (and f'ing scary) at the limits

no way. i had a clip in my old phone. it's quite impressive for a 6. seriously. it's sounds VERY healthy.

How much of this would change if we are comparing stock to stock? Your m3 is supercharged, so I'm sure that makes a difference in your comparison.

Well, to be fair, a stock M3 is about half the price of a turbo... But I am curious now.

Accleration and lap times are not even in the realm of comparability stock for stock. But then again MSRP for my fully optioned M3 was $76k and for my bare bones 911TTS it was $174k.

In order to compare, you need a bullet-proof reliable M3 with 600+ horsepower with a BBK and good tires. This is the only way to get the M3 close in certain performance metrics and at a level where a comparison makes sense.
