Amuse trunk quality and Poor **********s customer service
About 45 days ago, I bought the Amuse FRP Trunk Lid for my E92 M3 from **********s.com.
As a newb, I tried to read as much as possible for the various trunks (Amuse, Vorsteiner, Arkym) that match my style esthetic and reported to have decent fitment. When the trunk came and was unboxed, I was very disappointed in the quality. There are chips on the upper lip of the trunk (duck bill?) and general quality issues. Considering it cost $2,500, I was pretty pissed off with the product I received. I sent e-mails to **********s.com with a Mr. Brandon Y and a Mr. Frank with my concerns regarding the quality (along with pictures) of the trunk. Over two weeks, and multiple e-mails, the gist of their reply is such: There are lots of quality issues in the mod industry. Buyer beware, sorry so sad. Now, I'm sorry but unless your website selling expensive products states "NOTICE: DO NOT EXPECT QUALITY OR THE PRODUCT TO COME WITHOUT REQUIRING EXTENSIVE BODY SHOP REPAIRS FOR WHAT IS A NEW PRODUCT! THE QUALITY IS POOR, AND YOU WILL NEED TO FIX IT!", I think the average, reasonable consumer expects a new product to have a certain quality control for what is sold. I have worked with Bobby at Pyspeed, the folks at IND and Bimmian and have had nothing but GREAT experiences with rapid replies (with Bobby, even late nights on weekends). This experience is already burning me out on mods if manufacturer and resellers message is that they sell crap, know they sell crap, but do not plan to fix it. Am I being unreasonable to expect a new product to come undamaged and, god forbid, wanting **********s or amuse to replace/fix the deficiencies? Or is it really "buyer beware and $^%& you if it isn't quality"? Appreciate any feedback, thanks! Last edited by davramic; 09-20-2012 at 08:13 AM. |

Yea it sucks that you pay 2500 for a trunk and has minor defect. to be honest bro... the body shop will do their magic. once they prep the the trunk it will look like new. but i hear you paying that much shouldnt have any damage. hey never know it might have happen during shipping.. just get it painted you and you will enjoy that trunk.
BTW... what box did it come with did it come with the ericsson sticker? Heres mine.. ENJOY ![]()

Those defects will be handled by a body shop. Since it's just a fiberglass piece, it's meant to be prepped before it's painted so you won't even notice those things in the end.

I get that it's FG/FRP but it's a $2500 part it should be basically ready to go. That said, it looks like OP didn't get an authentic trunk.

The customer rep has contacted me and advised that they are working to fix the trunk issue. He states:
"It looks like the trunk that was shipped to you was a B stock Amuse trunk that our supplier thought was a new one. I have been in contact with our supplier to have this handled immediately for you. From what I am hearing from multiple suppliers is that the Ericsson Amuse trunk is a made to order item that comes from Japan. There are no more in the US and one will have to be made for you. This process will take about 8-10 weeks if you would like the true Ericsson Amuse Trunk." Not sure how this all just came to light as that information of a special order and delayed shipping is on their website, nor how such a different product is shipped in lieu of the genuine article, but at least they are saying they will replace it now... Fun times Where have others purchased their Amuse trunks from?? |

OP did you pay 250 or 2500... cause the amuse trunk doesnt look like that new from the box... this is the reason why asked if it came with the amuse sticker.
i bought mine used that was already painted but the back part inside was white and had to repaint mine but yours looked to be black and amuse dont come in that color new out the box.. .replica amuse does. SEE PHOTOS FROM EAS like i mentioned in my PM you want to buy parts? buy it at EAS.

Looks like got a fake Amuse Trunk and get charged for a real one. Real ones doesn't look like that. Most Japanese products are packed really well and they are very high quality FRP. All of our Varis products never arrived damaged.

Wow, trying to pass a $500 part off as a $2500 part and pocket the $2K! It's safe to say that I won't be purchasing from these guys!

I would give them a call. Don't waste time emailing back and forth. Demand a refund. Doesn't look authentic to me.
:/ Take the refund, buy it from EAS or R's tuning. No issue with authenticity. ![]() |

Sounds like **********s tried to pull a fast one on you. They'll never have my business. I hate companies like this. Good luck OP.

We are one of the authorized importers and can say that every Amuse or Ericsson Frp part we have brought in uses a white gel coat, comes wrapped in bubble and in an Ericsson box with badge or decal with it. From best I can tell this item looks to be a replica. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns.

Looks like a replica and even if it was authentic, $2500 is WAY to much for a piece like this from Amuse. I had parts from Amuse 10 years ago on my S2000 and NSX and they were not this much, even back then. I wouldn't pay over $1200 new for an authentic Amuse trunk. Just not worth it today in 2012.
Sorry you got jipped. |
