If you want to play you gotta be willing to pay. IMO, your asking for trouble with 20% or 5% tint. 35% cops seem to be more forgiving. All my DD vehicles have tint....wifes SUV, my truck and my M. Certain towns/counties seem to have a hard on for tint/plates vs others. I know most cops in my town so I'm lucky. I would recommend keeping your front plate on your passenger seat. When you see a cop put in on your dash. If you get pulled over and asks about the plate tell him its in your window because your front bumper was just replaced and the mount is on backorder....always works for me

I need to make a decision on which of these law breaking treats I'll have to give up I'm leaning towards putting the plate on. I love my tints and will probably always tint whatever car I have

CT has a no front plate law. I don't have a front plate, never been pulled over / harassed for it.

From my experience, especially so since I am dark in color, you can do one of the 2, but not both.

So no plate + no tints or plate + tints.

To be honest with you, I had 20% tints on both my cars before the M3, and I actually LOVE not having tints. Sure I can't pick my nose anymore in traffic, but now I just use tissue paper and blow my nose.

I think if I had an SUV or an exotic sports car I would put 15% or Limo tint on it. But for my M3, I like looking around, and don't mind people looking in!

....But in your case, I'd say go front plate + tints because it seems like you really like your tints.

My M3 is for sale here

Tints - check your DMV rules. I got a medical exemption in CT to have my tints and now get out of all my tint issues. Real simple to get your eye doctor to sign off for light sensitivity and you get the exemption. In NJ, it's form MR-15. Good luck.
