Recalibrate Steering Sensor??

As much as I've been on the forums, I have seen or heard anyone needing to have their Steering Sensor recalibrated after/ during a 4 wheel alignment? Is this needed/ necessary??

Or is Meineke trying to make a few extra bucks of off me?

Thanks guys..

I'm currently at Discount Tire getting my PSS put on.

Thanks again for any quick reply!

I've never heard of needing to do it after an alignment unless there was an accident involved.

Sounds like he thinks you have Active Steering, which the M3 does NOT have.

Always a good thing todo takes 5mins and most scan tools will do it. Plus have a full tank of gas for alignment.

Cool, I just wanted to double check with the forums cuz he said cars 2006 and newer might need it. For an extra $45

He did say once he plugs up the car? Or was it enter my VIN, that the machine will tell if its needed or not..

So I plan on asking then to max out my front camber, (no plates) what's the most I could expect to get 1.7ish? What should the rear camber be at? Stock or a little more aggressive (as far as stock can go)?

Thanks again!

They shouldn't be plugging anything in for an alignment bud

Are you getting an alignment at Meineke or Discount Tire? Either way, be careful, most places, especially low quality mechanics like those places have generally do VERY poor jobs with alignments.

I was at Discount tire getting my Tires. Meineke was next door. Manager at Discount gave me a coupon or $20 off on an alignment. I didn't get an alignment today because, yes.. I didn't trust the low quality mech.

I know you're not in Vegas, but I am in search for an alignment, and trying to avoid Steelership at all cost. I'll check with the local indy shops..

Good to hear and good luck with your search. If you were in Milwaukee, I'd have a rec for a location, but definately no help in Vegas. Maybe check the Track Section of this forum or see if any tire/alignment places sponsor Autocross in you area. Usually autocrossers have a good line on alignment shops.

IMO it is not a bad thing to have done. The steering wheel sensor is an input to the DSC. If it gets a eroneous reading it could trigger DSC intervention when it is not required.

I have it done every time I get the car aligned. Usually, if there was no toe adjustment required, the sensor reading would be OK. However, if the the tie rods were played with, then the sensor could be off by a few degrees.

I remember a member on the forum that kept having DSC cutting power as he was driving in a straight line.
