Please help - is rust here normal?

Last weekend, I swapped out my summer wheels for winter wheels. When changing the rear's I noticed something that didn't look right. The wheel "hub" (not sure if this is the correct technical term) is rusted pretty good.

Is this normal? This is the first time I have removed these wheels since picking up the car last October from the dealer.

Feedback GREATLY appreciated. Please let me know what you think.

Unfortunately totally normal. Just hit it with a wire wheel brush on your drill and apply some anti-seize before putting the wheels on.

Got it. Is there a specific product you can recommend or any product will do fine? Thanks for the great info.

put antiseize around the hub and it will not rust

OP completely normal, if it really bothers you, take a wire brush, clean it, mask it up and use some rust converter.

I have used this stuff on my cast iron gates, works beautifully

Wrong. Anti-seize is not effective at preventing rust.. this is cast iron.

I cleaned mine and a month later they were lightly corroded again o_O Cleaned them again but this time I clearcoated them. Time will tell but hopefully I don't have to do it again!

As others have already stated, this is normal and hitting it with a wire brush is the best method of keeping the hub rust free.

I didn't say it was to prevent rust. I haven't found anything that works to prevent the hub rusting but with that amount of corrosion anti-seize is needed to keep the wheels from getting stuck to the hub.
