Car did something funny today

Went for a short ride today - after the car had warmed up, I drove it for a few miles. Hit ~8k RPM and drove it a few miles on the interstate and filled up with (Shell) gas. I was at a drive through and while idling, the car just died. It started right up and seems to be fine. Power seems good - it pulls fine.

Any point to taking it to the dealer? The car is a 2011 with 11.5k miles.

I don't think you'd have to worry about taking it to the dealer. I doubt they could replicate your problem, and I do not believe there would be (should be) any fault code they could pull.

If it re-occurs then I would. But a one-off stall, not worth it IMO.

Mine did this yesterday at a stop light!! Almost got rear ended because she died so abruptly. Like the OP said, it started right back up and had no warning lights, etc. This is troubling...

Edit: just read OP post again. Coincidentally I had just filled up the car with gas as well. Any correlation?

Completely shut off (e.g. un-driveable) or did auto start-stop kick in?

Last year when I picked up my my new e92 from the dealer it died at the first light I came to. Started right back up and hasn't conked out since...I was thinking maybe the dealership just filled it with cheap gas.

Same here. It has happened twice while refueling. No codes were shown so I ignored it. (2012 M3)

The car just died. Nothing strange beforehand. I had just filled up with gas 5 minutes prior. I used a quality Shell station. Started right back up and ran fine. Other than possibly bad gas, I'm not sure what else could have happened. I'll call BMW tomorrow.

Unless this recall JUST happened there isn't one. I just called BMWNA 2 weeks ago and was informed there were no open campaigns on my car and I assume all 2011's.
He already said he was kidding (jk)!

OK, so start/stop was going to be my first suggestion. Since you're saying you don't have that, I don't think that I would worry about it a whole lot, at this point--unless it does it again relatively soon. Then I would have it checked out. Sometimes, sh*t just happens... Good luck!

You are right. I forgot about that.

Maybe that's it. I'll take it by the dealer tomorrow.

My 2011 dies occasionally at a stop light. It's fairly rare, but happens. Car runs fine.
