GI: M3 Carbon Fibre Strut Brace

Hey guys,

just putting this thread up to see if there would be any interest in us making an M3 Carbon Fibre Strut Brace?

- 100% Dry Carbon-Fibre Strut Braces (same material/processing as used on our Driveshafts). These would be a direct replacement for your current Aluminium Strut Braces

as a general idea of availability currently on the market:

- Dinan (Wet Carbon Strut Braces): $514

Our MSRP on the Strut Braces (2pcs) would be around $350

Depending on the number of interested members, we would offer discounts off our Strut Braces (which would be a far stronger product than both OEM and Dinan)

As the thread title suggests, just a General Interest thread to see if this is a viable option/product

Thanks!

Drawing of?

It will be a direct replica of the OEM Strut Brace (dimensional wise), but made of Dry Carbon instead of Aluminium. You would re-use your OEM Centre and Left/Right Brackets

Here's a strutbar we had made a few years ago for the 350Z:

There will be no difference in looks over your current OEM setup, except for the aluminium braces (left and right) being replaced with Carbon

I don't care for look, I'm more interested in function so if you could manufacture something functional like the m3/4 aluminum brace or abood///m's picture above that actually triangulates the existing brace, then I'm all in.

A replica of the Dinan brace is worthless IMO. Really hope this goes somewhere.

Something like this would be more more useful imo. I'd be in depending on where this goes. 😉

Yes interested. Something that is stronger than OEM is always nice. But something that adds some true rigidity to the front would be awesome. Look forward to the ideas.

When I say "oem setup", I mean the "M3 oem setup", not the "335i oem setup". The M3 oem setup is a rigid setup, and ours would not be a replica of the Dinan (we wouldn't be offering to make these braces if they were). There's only so much you can do "looks wise" when you are re-using the oem brackets and only replacing the left/right braces.

The Dinan's are your typical Wet Carbon or your cheap CFRP tubes with aluminum ends. Ours would be 100% Dry Carbon Fibre, like with our Carbon Driveshafts.

Whilst some may also want the addition of a cross brace (left to right), this is inconvenient for most as it gets in the way of the engine cover, and if you want to do anything in your engine bay, it requires you to remove your strut brace (obi wong kenobi's image kind of has the right idea)

the one in abood//M's image is pointless, as the cross brace is in the wrong position and serves no purpose (i.e the cross-brace needs to brace the struts, not brace the braces!)

Even if the design is the same as Dinan the price point is much better and I would Buy

I would be interested depending on how the bars mount to the car. I had the Dinan braces but because of the relatively large diameter of the aluminum ends and CF bars themselves, they rubbed against my carbon fiber airbox. In this regard, a diagram of what you have in mind would be great.

Ours would be 1pc flat tubes (instead of a round tube with aluminium ends like the Dinan ones). Similar to the flat tube style strutbar I posted above (but obviously not the whole strutbar)

Basically, just take a look at your existing strut braces (provided you have an M3), and imagine instead of them being the silver/aluminium colour, they are now 100% carbon fibre.

Interested depending on amount of group buy discount and whether or not that is an actual benefit from a performance standpoint. These would serve as a purely aesthetic upgrade, besides the trivial weight savings, no?

I'm interested if you can fabricate something like Obi's picture above. I'm looking for improved bracing geomtery from the existing brace even if it means I have to remove the brace to work on the engine.

if you guys are able to make a triangulated brace, i would buy it. something that connects to the firewall and stretches over the intake plenum. other than that, unfortunately, i think replacing oem braces would be negligible for anything other than aesthetics.

I like the idea of making simple oem swap outs. The OEM brace is great and carbon parts are a nice cosmetic enhancement.

something equivalent to this; there is nothing like this for the e9x M platform.
