Supercharger and non-OEM extended warranty
As my extended warranty runs out @ the end of Nov, I'm shopping now. I plan on s/c'ing the car, which we all know is a no-no when it comes to an extended BMW warranty. I saw a brochure for Fidelity, and in their Gold plan for the power train, they specifically mention coverage for s/c'ers and turbos. That was the brochure. Does any one have a copy of an actual contract in which they mention exclusions based on whether or not the equipment was OEM or aftermarket?

If you really think that any warranty will cover an aftermarket FI setup, or even a stock FI setup that's been tuned....

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, since it hasn't been established that it will *not*, I think it is a fair question. Out of all the warranty information bandied about here, this question has not been presented.

Thing is, the warranties have specific exclusions. For example, it excludes radar equipment. One might assume that if it isn't excluded, it might be warrantied. Since no one can offer any constructive feedback, I'll have to do some add'l research. If I were staying stock, I'd be inclined to agree with you. |

People are not offering constructive feedback because its common knowledge that warranties do not cover after market parts, especially parts that radically change the car like a supercharger.
Perhaps your local dealer will warrant the work and/or parts but a BMW or other extended warranty will generally never cover non-oem parts. |

But OP if you really are intent on hoping against hope here, ask a few vendors for full copies of their policies; they shouldn't have a problem sending you one even before you sign up for coverage. And even if by some miracle there's nothing that excludes it, I fully expect any possible claim attributable to an SC to be denied on the rationale that they're warrantying "an M3", i.e. specifically the parts that that moniker entails, not all of the non-M3 parts you attached to your car and what they might do to parts that are covered.

The maker of your S/C will warranty the parts for a set amount of time (normally in years or mileage, mostly in years). That'll cover the blower crapping out prematurely or a part failing/leaking early. And if you get a shop to install it they might offer a labor warranty (bolt comes loose, etc.). But your power train is going to be SOL. Hence why you need to make sure you buy a reputable and reliable S/C or else you're going to have to have money on hand to fix/replace the engine and/or transmission if things go bad. |

Doesn't ESS include a warranty with their systems? Or is that only for the kit itself?

Even if it is installed by McKenna, it won't be covered. In fact, not only will it not be covered but the warranty company will use it AGAINST you in pretty much any repair involving the powertrain.
Your best bet is to start you own little "insurance fund". Put away a few grand (m3an will suggest investing it in the mean time lol) so that when something goes wrong you aren't caught off gaurd.

I'm not sure why. It may depend upon the particular company, but all of the customer reviews I've read about Geico's Mechanical Breakdown coverage state that Geico never tries to weasle out of coverage. The same cannot be said of BMW even during the original 4 years of coverage.

These cars are too reliable to warrant an extended warranty IMO.

Fidelity definitely will not cover your car with a SC installed. Factory Turbo/SC would be covered as they were part of the car from the factory. Please take my word on this one as I am a Business Manager for a Dealer, and I deal with Fidelity Warranty Services.

SC install is easily reversable, just be clean with your work in case you need to take it in for warranty.
