Installed Borla - a few tips

Don't have pics, but I hope this will help the next guy.

1) Borla did not provide nuts for the hangers. On My 2009 Sedan, the hanger bolts had their nuts welded to the muffler, so I had to find suitable replacements. Not sure what size bolt, but the head was 13mm. Really, this is why I wrote this thread....I would have been SOL as a DIYer without some spare nuts I found in the garage.

2) Lube the hell out of the rubber hangers, they are a bitch to get on. I used some lubricant I use on my bike..WD40 is a terrible idea.

3) Don't follow the instructions on the clamp tightening order. You need to get the pipe adapters clamped to the OEM mid section before you tighten the Borla clamps that hold the exhaust tubes to the adapters.

Good luck.

Should have contacted Borla, mine came with the nuts and everything else included.
I love my Borla. Closest you can get to the refined exotic sound of an Akra, minus the greater weight reduction of the Akra.

Borla makes great sounding exhausts, e36,e46 and e9x exhausts all sounded great. Fitment has always been their issue.
OP congrats and enjoy!

Not sure what the deal was, I might have bought an older version. It did fit pretty well, and it sounds great. Overall happy - just a little frustrated with the install.

For further reference, IIRC, they are M8 x 1.25 bolts.

If you need something from a dealership: 22316760944 (is the part number for the bolts that attach the midpipe hanger to the tranny but they are the same thread pitch)

http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-38350-Ex...st+hanger+tool

These pliers make simple work of the hangers.

Which Borla system did you install? Was it the Atak? I am looking to order the Atak this week and was looking for feedback.
Thanks,
Andreas

Yup, ATAK version. It's a little nasal at the RPMs where Borla shaped the response to avoid resonance (to prevent drone). I like the cut-outs much better, but they droned a bit and I was worried about my kids' hearing.
