Audi, Range Rover and Jaguars
Someone please help me understand this.
I keep on reading how bad these cars are but sales seem to indicate otherwise. I see Rovers/Jags/Audi(s) all over the DC area. Why would somoene buy a car that is inferior and has all kinds of issues? |

I don't hear to much in the way of Audi having problems, at least not in the way other VWs have problems. Jaguar has an interesting past... didn't realize Tata Motors bought them (and Land Rover). |

BMW isn't really famous for their reliability either...
Also, my guess is that most of those cars are leases in which case it wouldn't really matter how reliable it is. I rarely see a Jag S-Type but when they first came out they were all over the place. Likely the same reason.

They all have scarred pasts to one extent or another. Nowadays, most of them have ironed out the issues, but their pasts still follow them via the uninformed or headline-only readers.

Having an Audi for 7 years and still driving it while waiting for the new car arrives, no issues at all. But I heard Jag and RR do have lots of issues, such as their adaptive suspenion which cost a fortune to fix.

My 06 Range Rover was the most reliable car I've ever had. My sister has an 09 Audi S5 that has the same number of stupid problems all of our BMW have/have had.

Go to an LR/Jag or Audi forum and I bet there are posters there asking the same questions about BMW's. Besides I'd take and XJ or a 7er any day of the week and a RR or Audi Q over any X series BMW.

looks wise, i love these cars. But just been reading on forums that owners saying they would never own a audi/rr again. Not much Jag owners here. Jags are so nice, i love their interior. Just something i was trying to understand. Maybe I should see what the audi/rr/jag forums have to say about bimmers.

It's the same with all cars... those who have problems will always feel the need to make it widely known. Those who don't will just go about things quietly. Probably the same ratio of Audi drivers that have issues as you'd see here. |

I just drove a 13 s4 today and was blown away. Wow what machine that thing is. For comparison I drove a 335is after and it was great but truly Audi interior is perfection. Just sitting in the BMW at first made me dislike it with the lower quality interior. Overall both great cars but s4 takes the cake

You really don't hear much about jaguar. My dad's friend owns a 2006 jag x-type and loves it and hasn't had any problems. The 2013 xf looks pretty slow with the engine they dumped in it though. I def plan to own one some day though. I don't even think peoples reactions to them are bad because no one really understands them. You tell people you own a bmw and they cringe, but you tell them you own a jaguar and they kind of don't know what to say. I think some uneducated people think your talking about the merc cougar.

I have a 2000 VW Golf GL with 212,000 miles on it and have had barely any issues other than normal wear and tear. The exhaust had to be replaced after 10 years, radiator after 11 years and I've only replaced the timing belt once at 160,000 miles!
I have literally put two sets of brakes on the car. The original sett lasted me 100,000 miles and the second aftermarkets "only" lasted 75,000 miles. Oh, I still have the original clutch too. It still grabs very well and will spin the tires when pulling out quickly. Bottom line, just get what you like. I think it's a crap shoot with any car you buy!

Driving my 12 TT RS after my 11 135i... Audi is superior in all ways. I tried toget I to a 1M to no avail, bub to my advantage as I TRUELY believe I have the better overal car in my stable now. My interior blows away even that of any high end BMW, with all the lux options.
Audi makes one helluva lux interior into a spot on beast of a car. Every car has issues, my 135i had the HPFP and almost left me stranded in the middle of the Alps!. But I have 6700 miles on the Audi and thankfully none to date. |
