Replacement Amp Options

So I believe my amp has gone out due to a leak, and I need a new one. In looking online, I have not found a new one with the same part number: 65127845163 or just 7845163 other than one busted one on eBay. I HAVE seen some with the same description and look, called "TOP-HIFI M F07 Verst", or without the Verst part, so are they going to work? It seems like there are a lot of part numbers that all look the same, can anybody give me a hint here?

Pay no attention to the hacked in speaker wire from a previous owner...

Does your car have EPS?

There are a couple of different plug designs for the OEM EPS amp... the earlier amps have a different pin plug than the later ones. I ordered a new replacement amp before and they only have the newer design. The newer one is compatible... but you will need to repin the plug and use a new connector.

I ended up just buying a used amp off of eBay that has the same plug.

The amps all say Lear on them. DIRAC is the company that does the tuning but the hardware is made by Lear.

Here's a thread I had about the amps from before:

I forget what the EPS means, but I have the yellow cones I think, and I want to say the 16 speakers. If the amp LOOKS the same, will it work, or are ones that look the same, same plugs, same fan, etc going to work? Are there year ranges for cutoffs? Like an '08 or '13 amp wont work on a 2011?

EPS stands for "Enhanced Premium Sound". It was only available on the M3 and some other M model cars.

If you have the yellow speaker cones then you have EPS. There were a few other audio systems available for the M3... Base audio is powered by the radio deck. Harmon Kardon was available and powered by an amp in the trunk. EPS is also powered by a amp in the trunk.

There are no strict cut offs by year. All EPS amps will work with each other, they just need to be repinned and possibly have the connector changed.

Your best bet is to get an amp that has the same connectors as your EPS amp so it is plug and play replacement.

For the US there were only 2 audio systems available. HiFi and EPS, as the HiFi being standard. Europe got the base audio, the US E9X M3s never got the Harmon Kardon.

If you have HiFi, head on over to: Technic Harness site

Then pick up an JL XD600/6 amp and you'll have better sound at a good price.

You can also do the Bimmertech, yes its more expensive but I think its a better match than the JL XD600/6 and its more powerful.

No arguments here. Either is more suitable than the stock amp.
