Great question man, but here is the deal. With the magnetic clutch, the clutch assembly freely spins until power is sent to the magnets, which energize causing the clutch gears to engage. Without the power, the clutch assembly is free to spin, which does not rob or require power. But under load the signal is sent, the assembly engages and now the supercharger spins. You are aware that superchargers require power to make power, so this is why so many lean towards turbos because they don't. They make power from exhaust which was being expelled anyway. But most superchargers are very reliable which is a sell for some. To recap, the gears spin freely until engaged, they are belt driven but are not always on. Hope this helps.

All the SC kits out are spinning the charger 100% of the time. The only company I think that has an option for a SC disengage clutch is g-power. Hope this helps

ASA blowers use a centrifugal clutch. They're very good and it's what I had on my e46. Don't think anybody is using them on E9X applications. Very good and expensive. Torque you feel at low rpms

I'll grab a picture of an install we're doing at the shop and take the pulley off the blower to show some detail.

ESS used to run the ASA blowers. I thhnk they changed more for simplicity of having one blower to use for all kits than out of any dislike of the ASA. Also ASA at the time did not have any really high flowing blowers.

That is cool, ASA blowers are very good. I loved my AA kit on my E46 M3.

ASA blowers give you good torque down low, it feels like a turbo. Blowers are a bit pricey, maybe that's why ESS guys are not using them anymore idk

I've never heard of G-Power. How do their prices compare to ESS or the others?
