Something strange I've observed...
So I saw this car on autotrader and emailed the used car dealership for the carfax. What I received was a scanned printout of the carfax. The "carfax report provided by" section was redacted with a black marker. So obviously, the dealer didn't buy it himself, I later found out the carfax was purchased by a dealership called "Premier Motors."
While at the lot, I asked the dealer to pull up the carfax on the website so that I can verify it wasn't fake. He got REAL defensive and said "what, you don't trust me?" and took about ten minutes to bring it up. So I saw the webpage on his computer, but now I realize he could have loaded up a forged webpage and pasted a carfax URL in to the address bar. I wasn't watching his should while he was loading the carfax on his browser, but I should have. Why wouldn't someone post a link to the carfax on autotrader? It seems like the smart thing to do right? Are fake carfaxes even a thing? Am I being paranoid? I already caught this dude lying to me saying that the car was fully loaded when he knew that it didn't have premium sound. Who knows what else he could possibly be hiding from me? Please share your thoughts, thanks for reading! |

Who cares about what the sales guy is saying, never trust them. Check the car yourself. Check the vin. Check it for free here: http://getvin.com/
Test drive the car , make sure it drives well and get inspection before buying a used car. And if I were you, I would get a CPO.

Trust is something one earns, not something one ask for.
And remember Carfax isn't really worth shit, they're often wrong. But I'd walk from this deal, something doesn't sound right.

Thats why I do alot more research than just a carfax. I try to stay away from buying at a used car lot. Honestly I usually feel alot better about buying a car from a private seller preferably a long time member on a forum like this one.

Everyone loves angry mob justice around here. Get out the pitchforks and light the torches!!
Car salesman, as generalized as possible, are stupid and dishonest. They have a motivation to lie to you. Missing the Premium Sound could either be because you know more about the vehicle than he/she (not sexist!) does.. which I find to be the case, or he is trying to just get you into it regardless whether he's padding the truth. If you really like it, get it PPI, and run your own carfax. Lots of people have shown me carfaxes with names other than their own on it. I have always insisted for a new one.. should anything have occurred in the mean time. I have always found the best way to evaluate a car is in person, on your own. Take some time to learn how and what to look for. 95% of the time you can pick up on after factory paint repairs, and the underlying reason for the paint can reveal accidents. Look for overspray, evaluate it in full sunlight, look for paint feathering or the shut lines, etc. |

http://www.autoexpertsca.com/invento...%20Convertible Here's what I've noticed, it's been in an accident and it doesn't say at how many miles it occurred. It could have just gotten out of the shop, after months and months of repairs, who knows? Does anyone know where I can get detailed accident info? Sometimes there are links to sites hosting this paid information on CarFax. There is no such link on this CarFax but if there was a way to get it I would totally for it! Any other sites other than CarFax/AutoCheck/GetVin that I should look into? Thanks for the great suggestions everyone! |

Hmm. Just be really observant of these kind of "mom and pop" dealers.
LIke I verbalized in a prior thread of yours. Check the paint, matching vin numbers, and underneath for any rust. Take it to an indy car shop, and have him do an inspection.

I like the idea of supporting the little guy though! How many VINs are on an M3? I know the one that's under the windshield, but that's it! Thanks for the great tips! |
