HOW do i decide??

So, I've been lurking on this forum forever, and every now and then I'll post a question as I gather information before I finally pull the trigger and order.

I think I've gotten my mind made up on a number of issues:

E92, Jerez, FR extended, DCT, ZPP, ZCP and on and on.

The ONLY thing that I can't decide is whether to go with the CF or the moon roof.

Now, I'm not asking for opinions on which is better (don't want to open that can of worms). I'm just wondering how the heck I make this decision.

I love the CF roof, and it's what's unique about this car, but I worry that I will feel claustrophobic w/o a moon roof, and when the weather is nice I do like to open the moon roof in my current DD.

I'm worried that I will regret my choice, and even as I type this I realize how stupid it sounds.

Any advice on HOW I make my decision?

I went with a sunroof. It's nice to have an open roof when the weather is nice!

Looks vs sunshine IMO. If I had gotten a coupe, I would have gone carbon roof because it's so damn awesome and I'm ok without a moonroof. Having the moonroof in my sedan is very nice and I open it almost every day but that carbon is great. So if you value the look of the carbon that's your choice but if you love the open roof, go with that.

I went for the carbon roof, more for the increased head room to accommodate the helmet, rather than the aesthetics.

My two cents: get the moon roof and have the roof wrapped with carbon wrap! Win-win, no?

You need to look at it as do you currently have a moonroof? do you use your moonroof?

I had a z06 for 3 years no moonroof or removable top. I didnt really miss it therefore I went with the CF roof. plus it looks sick as hell !

It's a tough choice for sure. I have the carbon and there are many days where I wished I had the moonroof. Overall for me though it came down to the carbon roof being very exclusive versus a moonroof being more mainstream. Would have been cool to be able to have both!

I had an X3 loaner last night with no moonroof; the weather was so nice, and it made me miss driving my car home last night.

You live in the Bay Area, so the the weather is pretty good almost all the time. If you have a moonroof now and use it on a regular basis, then I would say go for the moonroof on the new car.

Dupe of another post I made about this elsewhere:

The most common reasons most people go for the moonroof seem to be (and all of these reasons applied to me):

1. They don't like the look of CF with their exterior color.
2. They want to be able to open their roof for extra sunlight, sunbathing, engine noise, etc.
3. There's less road noise in the cabin with a moonroof than CF.

The most common reasons most people go for the CF roof seem to be:

1. It looks cool and isn't a common feature of cars in this segment.
2. They want the additional headroom, especially for track events where helmets are required. (This is a bit of an issue for me, but I don't regret the moonroof.)
3. It's known to cause speed.

I like the moonroof because it gives me exactly the amount of convertible experience I want. Having driven convertibles I decided they're not for me because of the added weight, softer suspension, odd looks with the top up, the need to wear sunblock when out on warmer days, and the inability to have a conversation over 60 MPH. But I definitely DID like feeling the wind and experiencing the sounds and smells around me, and I've found that windows down + moonroof open gives me all of what I want from a convertible and nothing I don't. I admit that the convertible had a better view, but I go out driving to DRIVE, so I don't have time to be looking up and around. Might be fun for passengers, but I don't pick my cars based on what my passengers will want.

pretty much sums it up. OP, it's up to your perference related to features you will "use" or see value in, it's your purchase not ours.

Get the moonroof. You won't be dissapointed.

EDIT: Since you're getting JB, the CF Roof doesn't give you much of a contrast in look. And if you're not tracking the car, might as well go for a uniform look with the sunroof.

Moonroof or CF

I have the CF, don't really track my ride and def wish I had the moonroof. My ride is black so the CF roof isn't as noticeable as on another color.

I say go with the CF roof for two reasons:

1. It looks f*cking awesome on the car!
2. I think it makes the car feel more balanced; which will make a difference if you plan on tracking the car (which I sure as shit would if I were you).

Best of luck with your decision!

flip a coin You really can't go wrong either way. If you are more interested in the look of the carbon roof you can always get the moon roof and wrap your roof in carbon vinyl? just a thought. either way you will be happy im sure.

I bought a sedan, so I didn't have the choice for carbon fiber. I still went without the sunroof. I like the extra headroom and lack of the 40+ pounds of additional weight.

Well, coming from someone in San Diego that might make sense. Considering about 99% of the rest of the planet I would agree that the SF Bay Area doesn't have "weather", it has "climate". The weather is remarkably nice almost all year 'round.

Most important thing: Are you buying new or used?

If new, that you can essentially just flip a coin. If you used, put a low priority on the moonroof.

I was absolutely 100% set on CF roof. Since you are going to Jerez Black, it won't stand out, just like my car which is Sparkling Graphite. From far away, you can even see the CF roof (unlike AW or MR for example). However, I was still set on CF roof because I never use the moonroof even when I had it in my E46. If you are like me, and wanting to keep the car for a long time, I decided to go against because that's one less thing to worry about. Stupid sunshade coming off the tracks, water leaks, ect...

If you want win in your hair, just roll down the windows. That's more than enough for me to hear my 414 ponies running wild.

I have n E90 so didn't have an option but I would still get the moon roof. Love the CF look but doesn't beat having roof open on a nice day.....
