Unhappy Scratched Front Bumper (pics)

Hey Guys,

I couldn't been more pissed off at myself . I was pulling my 2013 E92 coupe into a parking space and I guess I overestimated how much space was left between the bumper and the curb. I rolled in very slow but still ended up tapping the curb. The net result was deep gash like scratches on the bottom of the front bumper. See pics:




Does anyone have any highly recommend body shops in Long Island NY, ideally specializing in BMW (Lemans Blue paint) repairs? I want to get this fixed as soon as possible.

Honestly, it's not that bad. Your bumper is bound to endure more damage as time goes on. I would wait for more significant damage before getting it repainted. Touch Up paint would make it near invisible on Lemans Blue.

I used to do touch ups on my old G35 Coupe and it was black. It would come out OK but it would still be somewhat noticeable. Do you think a body shop would recommend touching it up as opposed to a complete respray?

The scratches seem to be a bit deeper than rock chips. Its more of a couple of gashes unfortunately.

Dr. Colorchip will fill in the gouges. It may take a couple of passes but it works. Go check out the video and let us know AFTER you have tried it.

There is a gentleman that did a write-up about his friend's E39 M5. He kept on filling the scratch, then sand it down with a 1500 grit sandpaper, then 2000, and then he polished it with an orbital buffer.
He did a good job.

A lip really would have helped out here. If you bump it or scratch it, you can take it off.

I did the same thing to mine when it was 2 months old. I got over it, which is rare for me. I'm waiting for something more significant to happen and at that point I'll have it resprayed and the markers filled. Good luck.

If you don't have a clear bra on it, give it a few months of driving and you'll have so many rock chips you'll wonder why you even bothered worrying about that little bump....

Thanks for all the replies guys. Do you guys get a lot of rock chips with normal driving? Im starting to debate if i should even get an estimate. Additionally, I am starting to debate if getting it repaired at the body shop followed by a clear bra would be the best route to go.

Estimate? Do you have all of your appendages? This is a simple DIY fix.

I know its a little OCD of me and probably not the wisest choice. However, after spending 69K on the car of your dreams, another $500 wont be the worst thing in the world to get it good as new. I think of it as a lesson learned the hard way. I read more into DrColorChip and this line threw me off:

I have decided to go with the suggestions of everyone here and try out Dr.ColorChip. I'm placing my order for it now and I will do a detailed before and after comparison with pictures.

I felt as though everyone was right with the damage not being that substantial. Given that the car is new, I'd prefer the bumper wasn't taken off and resprayed. Also given the location of the damage (slightly under the front lip), I feel Dr.ColorChip would be a good candidate. If I am not happy with the results then I will have to live with it I guess.
