2 hour quote for M Performance Exhaust install???

Dealer told me they go by the book and its 2 hours to install a M Performance exhaust. I currently have stock.

Should I just go somewhere else or is it really take 2 hours?

2 hours doesn't seem unreasonable for any exhaust. It leaves room for anything that may be stuck or needing special attention. My indie shop did my Dinan in 1 hour 15 minutes, there were no hiccups, but I was told max 2 hours.

Actually 2hrs for a drop-in plug and play bolt on does seem unreasonable. Take it to a muffler shop if you really cant do it yourself. My .2

It took 1/2h for mine! Go to any other shop, it's the easiest install!

DIY or find someone local to help out. 2 hours seems long and a waste of money.

Dealer will way over charge you for a muffler install. Honestly its something so simple and straightforward any local muffler shop could do it.

Unless you have some horribly seized bolts, any exhaust shop could do it in an hour or so.

I'm agreed with everyone !
BUT....... !
When MPE is not installed by BMW/Dealer ....What's up with the BMW warranty ? And we all know about the crack problems with MPE ? This exhaust is not cheap !

The MPE itself is a 2 yr warranty when not installed by BMW. If MPE is installed after you take delivery, it will be covered in your initial 4yrs/50K.

As for the crack problem, that is relatively very very low. So show me a statistical number if its really that bad. The crack is probably the abuse from the driver!

OP -- I had my MPE installed at a reputable indie shop for what seems like less than 20 min for $95. Its pretty much jacking the car up and unscrewing a few bolts and clamps. And an extra set of hands to hold while fitting in pipes is a big help.

They can't warranty the install if some exhaust shop does it, obviously. The part itself is still warrantied.

If you have a jack and jack stands you can easily do this yourself in under two hours with basic hand tools

there is a DIY on it, also make sure to get some WD40 or similar to get the exhaust hangers off to put on your new exhaust

I went to the dealer and they charged me the big labor rate for 1 hour and they were taking off an Active Autowerke slip on. Thought it was a reasonable time but, as always, labor hours are too much at the dealers.

2 hours is a joke. This is a bolt on exhaust. No welding or fabricating. Any independent shop can do it in 20 minutes. That's how long mine took.

The stuck bolts are the issue my indie has come across. So adding some WD-40 or liquid wrench type shit and having to wait. I doubt any mechanic would charge for that wait time, however.

About the install of the exhaust i think, i know almost everything about it because i have done the Oem. exhaust mod. by myself ( 2 perf. method)
The install takes about 1 hour, (i was alone),but not to forget you need to remove the Oem.exhaust first !
Now about the warranty, when there are cracks after a while , and we all knowing the BMW/Dealers .....Mmmm the exhaust is not installed the right way...or ohhhh this bolt was not tightened correctly and caused vibrations that resulted in cracks....Than what ?!?!
I just want to say....with the MPE exhaust and we all know the price of it,i would take 0 risks, for this couple of $100 USD more,i would let my MPE install by my BMW/Dealer,and would i get in trouble with cracks...Ok it's for BMW ...done no dicussion !
About statistical numbers i realy don't know , but i read several sadly cases on here, sometimes with visible cracks outside on the muffler, but worst for me personal are the vibration noises from inside the MPE caused by bad welds, so no cracks are visible and than the dicussion by our BMW/Dealers can begin, who would like a situation like this ?
Knowing that welding on Inconol is not a piece of cake !
So again for me personal with an exhaust like the MPE....i would take no risk at all !
Here after a quick search one of the several threads about this problem >http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...PE+with+cracks
