SLS Black Series

I have a new favorite engine.

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/09/m...-black-series/

Read the press release.

6.2L, 622hp... 8000RPM!

AFAIK, no one has ever put a 8000RPM V8 > 5L in a production car. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Piston speeds must be nuts. Oh and max power is at 7400RPM, so in theory there is more power to be had here (probably in exchange for some peak torque).

Before I became an ///M Specialist for my dealer, I was an AMG Specialist for Mercedes-Benz and flogged the SLS many, many times. The problem with the SLS is with traction. Loves to oversteer. I'd be curious to see how it handles the extra power.

I think he means something a little bit more crazy.

Seriously though, bmw needs to come out with something like the SLS or atleast comparable to the R8 v10 model

I drove a "regular" SLS on the track in Florida last December. Although it was "objectively" amazing, I didn't like it. It had incredible grip and power and sounded amazing. However, I found the seating position to be too low and the car felt simply HUGE. It isn't but the front is so long it feels like it. It felt so big (not heavy but large) that it didn't feel sporty to me if that makes any sense. The SLS BS will be an absolute beast and put down incredible numbers I'm sure but, for the money, I would personally go a different route. I would take a C63 BS over the SLS BS any day even though it a clear step down in ultimate performance. Just my opinion which I'm sure many would disagree with but there was something "subjective" about the SLS that I just didn't like.

BMW really needs to build a supercar to compete with the GT2/GT3 RS, the SLS BS, etc.

Not to mention MBZ had the SLR, and Maybach in their line up of vehicles, sadly BMW just came out with the grand coupe to compete with the CLS. As far as diversity goes, BMW will never be on par with MBZ.

Thats true. For the maybach it would be the rolls royce, but still. the gran coupe looks sweet

So true. I respect MBZ for that and their black series line!!

A great way for the M156 / M159 motor family to go out with a bang. Awesome ride. It just looks and sounds so sick. I can imagine what gthal means about the long hood, although I was somewhat used to it with my Z4MC, although the seating position was not as sunken as the SLS.
