Strangers leaning on your car

I'm not overly protective of my cars. I don't care whether passengers eat in them, I don't care if there's a couple of rock chips, and I don't park across multiple spaces. What I do care about is strangers who use your car as bench.

Sunday night, the wife and I were coming out of the hospital and there were three guys and a tibetan mastif in the mostly-empty parking lot. One of them was leaning/sat/slumped on the front 3/4 panel. "Sorry, about that" he said. "Right," is all I said in response as I got in and we drove away.

Reminded me of Lloyd Christmas' line to Harry when he said, "You really wimped out," but I really didn't see the upside in creating a scene or trying to educate 3 men, one of whom was wearing shades at 10pm. I must be getting old

Anyhow, no real point to this story other than it's monday morning, my hand still hurts like hell and I'm a little annoyed that parking anything you own is ten times more stressful than it should be.

It upsets me when people do this crap.
Someone was sitting/leaning agains the front right fender on my Jetta. Left a hand prints in several spots too. People have no respect to other's properties.

What would Chuck Norris do in this case?? I hate when people use my car as a public bench.

the fact that he said "sorry" shows he was well aware that leaning on someone's car is not acceptable behavior yet he still did it. people can be assholes. i wouldn't have been as nice as you.

I once came out of a restaurant and noticed some drunk guy leaning on the front fender of my car while smoking a cigarette.

I didn't care too much for it but thought I'd have a bit of fun so I set off the car alarm from a distance. This dude didn't even flinch! Either he was pretty hammered or just didn't care.

Anyhow, I hopped in a drove away. No harm done.

My best experience with this was in Europe. Local contraction guys used my car as a picnic table. There is not much that you can do in these situations best way is to kill them with kindness.

To bad you didn't have some beer bottles on the hood! Could have karate chopped the tops of them off and watched them run away!!

Good call--never a good sign when some dude is loitering and wearing shades at night. The general disregard for others' property irks me, too. One potential solution: place a placard on your dash like the one in the link below. It's the last photo in the initial post (sorry--I couldn't separate out the photo from the thread on my iPad):

It's just a general lack of respect. The guy acknowledged he knew he shouldn't have been sitting or leaning on your car, but he went ahead and did it anyway.

Mixing it up with those guys probably woudn't have ended well no matter how satisfying it might have been, so I think you did the right thing. Maybe back in the day when you could be found hanging out in parking lots the results may have been different. Then you might have had to wear sunglasses at night to hide your shiner.

I also think it's easy for people to dismiss BMW drivers as harmless yuppies. For example, I don't think they would have sat on this dude's car...

I like to call security. Always entertaining to watch old guys with COPD stare down the hoodlums

I think you handled it well given the circumstances. While my approach has been different, time and experience have taught me staying quiet over this stuff is the smart move.

+1

Especially when you're with your gf/wife. Too many idiots out there with nothing to lose will ______ you. Nothing but downside in it for you and your lady. And, saying something doesn't undo that he was sitting on the car already.

I would've driven away and told security on the way out that you saw some suspicious people in the lot. Then, go home, wipe down the car and have a beer.

Thanks for the responses guys, some good ones and the Miyagi/Arnie links were classics

I don't how to multi-quote but think the above was the only question anyways. Tore my left middle finger's saggital band on an elbow thanks to wearing totally shot 16s (note to self, never forget your Winnings), but it was actually a good news day as it's only partial, but still aches like heck especially on a morning. Broke my tooth 3 weeks ago too so the wife's given me the old about my pastimes.

I didn't lose any sleep over the incident and for sure it's better to carry on with life than risk a gun getting pulled. And yes, I did in fact crack open a Boddingtons before bed time.

Well played on your part. You were with your lady and like others have said you never know who you are messing with out in public. You never know if you run into some depressed dude with nothing to loose who is out just looking to start shit.
