New Car orange peel
Just took delivery of a '13 E92, and as expected has a crap paint job. How many of you had it removed shortly after delivery?
How does it get removed? A professional detail? ![]() |

Removing orange peel requires careful wet sanding with progressively less abrassive sand paper and then compound and polish..
Its a major job and a detailer will charge an arm and a leg.. |

We have to charge for the time that we put into the work, but the results are unlike anything a simple paint correction can accomplish. |

Paint correction won't remove orange peel; it'll remove light scratches, swirls, hazing, and dull paint, but the orange peel will remain. You will have a high amount of gloss, but light will be refracted from the orange peel, thus reducing the car's ability to reflect maximum amounts of light (refraction). I literally just got finished with wet sanding the rear quarter panel on my car, and it took 7 hours to sand and polish just the upper section of the panel.

I would just live with it. All paint jobs from the factory will come with orange peel in varying amounts.

+1 besides you have a good color as on swirls and scratches have a harder time showing up. save the money and mod up!

Not worth the trouble.
Learn to live with it IMO. A lot of the time paint correction is needed on a new car. Lots of detailers do new car preps because when they are with the dealer, they get wiped with crappy towels and handled a little rough. You'll see some small swirls, that's almost for sure... New car prep is just a small detail, removes those light swirls, and puts some good protection (wax or sealant). It also preps it perfectly for if you plan to clear bra it.

Save your clear for when you need it corrected over the years. Especially since some M3s are coming with sub 90 micron readings out of the factory these days... BMWs are known for it... might as well just accept it. Once you get surface level defects... those will bug you 10 times as much as orange peel.
