iPhone 5 Cable Incompatibility?

As you all know by now, iPhone 5 uses a new Lightning Cable.

Apple is also going to release a Lightning adapter that, when use, will allow an old cable to connect to the iPhone 5. However, seems to think that the adapter will not work with BMW's iphone / ipod adapter cable.

I suppose if that in fact is the case, then I will have to wait for BMW to make a new $70+ cable to connect the iphone 5 - if it is even possible (read cnet's argument). article "iPhone 5, new iPod, may leave some cars in the dust"

I've always wondered(well at least on the 1 series) why BMW uses the Y cable(USB AND AUX), while others just use the USB by itself.

I sure hope it works : <. They showed a BMW in one of the pictures at the event >_>

The only thing missing from Lightning is the analog audio out, so BMW's method should have no issues. Controls are still done over USB, but the audio comes out the Audio jack as before.

The charging adapter is 1.3 amps if i remember correctly. So you will indeed need a charger that outputs more amps. Most car chargers only put out about 1 amp or less. Recently because of the iPad/tablets there have been chargers made with more amprage, but if you can charge an iPad off of that "BMW's iphone / ipod adapter cable" if not you'll need a different one. I currently use this 2.1 amp belkin car charging adapterfor my iPad/phone and i should have no issues.
