My dealer has two flooded M3s and 30 total cars from teh storm. One customer got a new X5 loaner and promptly hydrolocked that one the next day trying to get to her son in an emergency.

Waiting for replacement adjuster, my original adjuster went back to the west coast of Florida. Spoke to service manager, he expects them to approve a new engine. I get a two year warranty if done. Maybe I will find out tomorrow.

Hope it all works out for the OP, good luck with getting it totalled so you would be free of it regarding future problems re salvage, etc. Sounds like you have a good chance of insurance totalling it, given new engine vs 4 years old.

Why would it be a salvage title? No accident reported, no change in ownership, can the insurance company do this, or simply report flood damage. Anyone in Florida know?

Yes the flood damage will be reported and may or may not show up on an autocheck or carfax. The car will still have a clean title though. Salvage titles are only for cars deemed total losses.

However, the dealer could not reach the adjuster, and by the end of the day Friday, his mailbox was full. Unfortunately, he was not a local, but an adjuster brought in from out of town to help and he had told me that he was going back to the west coast on Friday.

With the holiday, I will not know anything until Tuesday at the earliest...

If they total, I will have to start looking for another car. CPO M3 at top of my list, but budget is tight, so I may have to hold off for now. Nothing local M3 wise has any appeal (so few for sale).

Thanks for (mostly) the support
Something will definitely be achieved; whether new car, used car, rebuilt car, you will get something. Keep your spirit high kiddo.

A flood indicator is almost as bad as a salvage title. Very similar depreciation hit.

I'm ignorant on how insurance companies title claims but I thought that the only time they identify flood daamge is if water gets into the car and they have to replace internal components. Do they use the same general classification if water just gets into the motor?

What an ignorant statement. Like no Californian has EVER lived anywhere besides California and California NEVER gets any flooding. We couldn't possibly understand.

but were you here last week?? that's the point, it's very easy to pass judgement from elsewhere not knowing what is really happening.. Who cares, let the OP move on. He came here to say what happened and everyone jumps down his throat..

OP if you need help I am a licensed appraiser/adjuster and have dealt with floord vehicles before. PM me if you need any assistance.

yes claims are classified according to cause of loss. Being that this was a named tropical storm, many people were affected, this will be classified as a CAT loss to Ins. companies and the damages are from water. (i.e. not collision) it is a comprehensive loss and will be applied to the comp portion of the policy.

Sorry to hear that. South Florida didn't get it too bad.

Sure, 18 inches in one day in Wellington (South Florida), not bad at all, twice as much water as Wilma.

I always keep my car garaged with weather like that... too many potential problems. This obviously being the worst. Sure I guess I could walk to work instead of driving my only car...

Dealer advises that a new engine will have to be shipped from Germany at a cost of $24,800. 3 weeks to deliver. Installation not included

Seats are unbolted, and car now has no pads or carpet with plastic trim in trunk.

Still waiting on Geico

Drop a Dinan stroker in there..same price.

Click

Only question is..if your old engine would qualify as a "suitable" core..

Pretty sure he meant farther south Florida. It wasn't bad at all in Miami. I was out and about that Sunday night and went to work on Monday. Even in doral where the water tends to build up it wasn't bad.

Really unfortunate what happened. I Hope it all gets taken care of without too much hassle.
